Re: Top ten Films of 2007
I have to agree that it was a well done movie. I didn't add it because it was in '06 but it made my '06 list Say what you want about Mel Gibson but that was a hell of a good movie. Quote:
Loved both Pirates and Mr. Brooks but I didn't think either one was good enough to make it to the top ten given the competition but that's just me. Was impressed with Mr. Brooks though, good to see William Hurt playing creepy. Quote:
Yes I do, however I don't do it too regularly as my schedule prohibits spending too much time doing it. Quote:
I can understand where some would say that. However I'm 25 and I related perfectly to it. However IMO the themes deal more with Love and Loss than with being in your 40's and trying to find happiness. But again I might have only placed that emphasis on it because of my own personal experiences. |

Re: Top ten Films of 2007
Good list, man. Here are my adjustments, though:
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead should be switched with the #3 spot. Absolutely well directed film. And the acting by Ethan Hawke was so good, that my empathetic side was as nervous and uptight as he was throughout the movie. 3:10 To Yuma to #8. Just a great western, and I like westerns. ![]() Juno should replace 28 Weeks or be a near miss at #11

Re: Top ten Films of 2007
1. There Will Be Blood
Great movie but I wouldn't have put it this high up. 2. Eastern Promises Excellent movie, was my #2 as well 3. Gone Baby, Gone Another grteat movie, and we agree on the placement. 4. No Country For Old Men Still in agreement, it was filled with disturbing jangled performances. 5. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford And here you went completely dead wrong, this was just a little too "Brokeback' for my tastes. Slow, lifeless and badly paced. 6. Before the Devil Knows You're Dead Much lower on the list for me, its a top 20 but not a top ten. 7. 300 This crept in at 10 for me. 8. Dan in Real Life It shows Steve Carrell's versatility as an actor. While I agree on hwo good thios movie is I gotta be honest I don't get the versatility point. Steve Carrell for the most part continues to play the same lovable loser from Little Miss Sunshine (which I hated) to Get Smart with his only versatility being how much Loser he injects to the part. 9. 28 Weeks Later And finally we hit the point of the list where I suspect you may be doing crack. This movie is not nearly as good as the first one, not as scary, not as logical. This was not in any way good tho it was slightly entertaining. 10. 3:10 to Yuma This was my number one movie. Great casting great pacing fabulous ending, what more could you want form a movie?

Re: Top ten Films of 2007
Wow. Couldn't disagree with you more on There Will Be Blood. I found it to be slow, awkward and dull. But if I ever make a movie where there's brutal killin' that needs be done, I'll be sure to call Daniel Day Lewis. Seems he's getting typecast for that kind of thing between Gangs of New York and this one.
Yes on 300 - there's something for everyone. Lots of great battle action for the fellas and a bunch of buff Greeks in loincloths for the gals. It's a movie we can all agree on. I also really liked 3:10. It was a bit slow to get moving but it's a good old fashioned "horse shit and gunsmoke" kinda flick.

Re: Top ten Films of 2007
![]() That's the great part about top ten lists, so many things to both agree and disagree with. I really do enjoy hearing everybody's thoughts on certain movies. Addiction, when I was talking about Steve Carell I guess I was just referring to his initial performances in films which saw him just do slapstick comedies such as Anchorman, Bruce Almighty and of course his stints on The Daily Show. I guess with his roles in Melinda and Melinda, Little Miss Sunshine and Dan in Real Life I saw him go from Slapstick to lovable character to depressed suicidal and was just impressed that he was able to carry out roles so different than his previous roles. The Assassination of Jesse James I just loved. I realize it was a tad bit slow for some but I found it to be thoughtful in pace and just haunting overall. |

Re: Top ten Films of 2007
Not all of us. I watched 300 last night for the first time and didn't care for it. I like Frank Miller's work in books but this adaptation didn't do it for me. The 300 special that was aired on Discovery was much, much better, imo. And, of course, more historicaly accurate. I like my history stories to reflect the real deal, not just the concept. When it comes to history, I like documentary's much better. I guess that's why I was shaking my head often during the movie. Plus, I don't care for the slow motion action.
I am working my way through Dustin's top ten. I don't go to the movies and rarely watch them. I havn't seen any of them, except 300. I have seen the original 3:10 to Yuma and I don't know if I want to watch the new one because I can't stand it when good movies are remade. The original with Glenn Ford is very good. |

Re: Top ten Films of 2007
I agree that the original is very good
I think you will like the new one as well though Bro. Very well done and not too over the top which they could have done given a different director |
