The Happening (possible minor spoilers)

Just finished watching this movie. My wife actually hated it. The ending was odd, yet the movie was entertaining throughout. You see, people have been watching movies their whole life, and there is a preconceived notion that movies should have a difinitive beginning, progress reasonable well during the course of the movies, and have a firm end to sum the movie up. THIS movie did not have these three elements. I thought it was creative and original, but did not completely wrap up. Like Tarantino, Shyamalan has a quite different and often oddball way of creating movies. So, when you see it, just keep an open mind and, as they say, enjoy the ride. I think this movie was about the ride, not the destination.

I watched this movie a couple of days ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree - it was a creative take on how we impact our world and some possible consequences.

After the movie I immediately fed and watered my houseplants!

Re: The Happening (possible minor spoilers)

I tend to find something to like in all of Shyamalan's movies but Markie Mark really ruined this one for me. It's not just that his lines were ridiculous but the way he just sleepwalked through the whole movie. He obviously was there for the paycheck only.

"Hello. My name is Elliot Moore. I'm just going to talk in a very positive manner, giving off good vibes. We're just here to use the bathroom, and we're just going to leave. I hope that's okay."

Sheesh.

Re: The Happening (possible minor spoilers)

some of the dialog was rather strange, especially with some scenes and exchanges between Markie Mark and Leguizamo.

Re: The Happening (possible minor spoilers)

I watched the trailer, and the acting in the trailer was wooden and the premise was absurdly simple. Enough to make me not want to explore wasting 90 minutes of my time I could never recover.

Re: The Happening (possible minor spoilers)

Not one of Shyamalan's best films, but I enjoyed it.

Fav Shyamalan films for me are as follows (in order)

1. The Village
2. Unbreakable
3. Signs
4. Sixth Sense
5. Lady in the Water
5. The Happening (tied w/ LITW for last)

Re: The Happening (possible minor spoilers)

I just watched this over the weekend. In the DVD extras, Shyamalan says he set out to make the best B movie he could. Kind of an homage to the 70s sci-fi/terror flicks, much like Grindhouse was by Tarantino/Rodriguez.

I was interested to learn that they shot the movie in sequence.
