Oscar's..I'll eat Perry's hat if HEATH LEDGER wins

Aside from HATING 'Rachel Getting Married' so much and posting a thread about how Anne Hathaway most certainly does NOT deserve to win an Oscar for that piece of boring trash, I've got another beef (thank goodness I didn't watch more Oscar/Golden Globe nominated movies)....so I figured I'd tell you all about it since I can't get it off my mind and I wondered if y'all felt the same way or not.

And forgive me if you all aren't taken up by all this Oscar madness as we are out here in LaLaLand....hell, mrsreindeer wants to pack in every single nominated flick this weekend alone ahead of the awards ceremony and I told her it's physically not possible.

Soooo.....

HEATH LEDGER....

First, he did a great job with the Joker, that's for sure. I would never say he didn't do a great job. And I liked the movie a lot (I was surprised it was so good, frankly). That's not what my beef is about. But Best Supporting Actor? Really?

Did Jack Nicholson, who also did an amazing job with the Joker, get an Oscar nod? Nope. And he was incredible too. He did get a nomination for the Golden Globes, however, but didn't win the award.

So....here's this guy, who did do a great job in the film but I'm not sure it's Oscar worthy and yes, I was pi$$ed too that he won the Golden Globe.

They're doing this, I fear, to honor his life's work. He won neither award after receiving nominations for the Oscar & Golden Globe for 'Brokeback Mountain'.

So why not give him an honorary 'Lifetime Achievement' award instead of taking the trophy away from other excellent, LIVING nominated actors who can benefit greatly from the win?

This is why I'm pi$$ed. The guy died or killed himself and it's terribly tragic; I'm not trying to imply anything different.

But to put a dead guy in the running with other deserving living actors who can benefit greatly is almost, in my opinion, like a slap in the face to those other actors.

Is it not?

Absolutely not! And because Nicholson did a great job, but didn't win, Heath isn't allowed to? That's some faulty logic, man. Heath did an AMAZING job as the joker. Now, I haven't seen enough movies this year to say he should win, but he should deffinately be in the running.

Now here's the problem...I fear that he will get the award simply because he passed. THAT, I do not agree with. If he gets the award simply for his performance, then I can get behind that.

But your idea of taking him out of the running because he's not alive? C'mon.

(Not trying to sound like a jerk, but I had this argument at work the other day, so I'm still a little heated about it.)

Hey there Matt, I appreciate your point of view, that's the great thing about this forum and why I threw it out there....that said, I'm not saying Ledger didn't do a good job with the role...I thought he was a great Joker..and I'm not really saying that because Jack didn't win, Ledger shouldn't....but I guess what I'm getting at is what you said...

I think they WILL give the award to him to do the PC thing....and when the camera pans that room (like they did at the Golden Globes), showing everyone clapping for him, you just gotta wonder if those fakers are really happy that a dead guy won, a dead guy who killed himself by OD'ing on prescription meds.

I understand where you're coming from, and I agree. They probably will give it to him to do the PC thing, which is rubish. Personally, I do feel like he should get the award. I think his performance was brilliant. Like I said however, I haven't seen all the movies up, so I don't want to jump the gun.

So no, I don't think you're off your rocker. The person I argued with at work had a different point of view than you, saying that he didn't do as good of a job as people think, and everyone is just in love with it because he died. Which I don't agree with at all. Sure, there's some people that feel that way, but I think the majority of people realize the good job that he did.

Like it or not, pc or not I believe you are going to eat some hat on this one. It's a really good argument on why he should not but Hollywood just lives for this kind of thing. That's why Sean Penn will win Best Actor for his portrayl in Milk. Hollywood just eats up these kind of pc roles. Do I think Penn deserves it, no. but I have no say. Besides I can't stand Penn or his ultra liberal buddies. But that's just me.

And James, while I didn't see Milk, I've got to say that Sean Penn is definitely at the very very top of the short list of best actors in our lifetime....to the mix, I'd add Daniel Day Lewis....okay, maybe those two are the tops. But I do want to see Milk badly. I'd think the guy deserves a win in anything he's in, regardless of his political leanings. The guy is amazing.

I agree with Daniel Day Lewis, and yes Sean Penn has had some great films, but a little early IMHO to put him in some rarified air. Again just my opinion.

Gotta say that Penn is a bit over-rated and it's enough to see him win much less the diatribe of his political views anytime he has a mike in front of him. Isn't it enough for him to show up in his designer suit and shoes and say Thank You,,,no, I get to hear his political rants on how he feels about certain leanings,,,how about I show up at his house with a megaphone and start on all of my rants? Chances are he'd call the police and have me removed.

I think the celebrities need a few more shows on to extoll their work because they just don't have enough "Me Shows" going on for everything they do. This may be my last Oscar Show and Emmys,,,they just don't have enough "Wow" factor for me anymore and I could care less what they are wearing or 'who' they are wearing as I just want to be able to see a good movie without all of the 'adoration' these people get on a daily basis. (rant over)

So true... Somebody who can ACT does not necessarily have the ability to rise above MORON status in other areas of life. I also don't care about actors politics, and I think they should keep their mouths shut about anything not related to their art when doing the Academy Awards. And the "thank you's" are getting more and more lame and trite each year also... I've had my fill of the well-practiced lip-quiver while thanking a bunch of people the general audience never heard of...

I agree that pollitics and religion should definitely be kept out of speeches. I didn't much like it when, who was it....Susan Sarandon added soome political B/S to her speech a few years back...was it for 'Dead Man Walking'?

That said, I was pretty entertained during these Oscars; I liked it. I thought Hugh Jackman did a great job too. And even though Heath won, at least Anne Hathaway did not.
