World Trade Center

Any feelings on the release of this movie on Wednesday?

I never saw Flight 93, but was fine with it because it seemed like a low-key movie with no big actors the put the story first. Maybe it's just me but it seems like having Nicholas Cage and a soundtrack featuring Coldplay is a little too much hollywood a little too soon.

Re: World Trade Center

yeah, i agree it may be too soon. however, i still think it could be a good movie. i'm really hit or miss with cage, but i would still be interested enough to go see it. probably won't since i'm too cheap to go to the movies.

A true story of two of the fortunate enough to survive. I don't see how it's "too soon", unless people just don't want to deal with history. I hope it will be a tribute to all the brave men and women, civilians and public servants, who lost their lives that day, or for those who lost someone they loved.

Never, ever forget.

I'm not saying it's too soon for a World Trade Center movie, I'm saying it's a little too soon for a glitzed up WTC movie with big name actors and big name bands. The thing that I liked about movies like Flight 93 (watched it last night, very good movie) and Passion of the Christ is that they used a bunch of little-known actors whose fame wouldn't detract from the movie's message. I like Nicholas Cage, I like Coldplay, but I'm not sure I like the idea of them in a WTC movie less than 5 years after the tragedy.

Review on IMDB.
"Does the film succeed? I say no. It's too much manipulation and after a while you will not be able to stand all the nagging melodramatic music which is way over the top. The movie tries too hard to be a crowd pleaser. Period. "

If i go from this review, then the movie ended up the way I thought it would - a crappy melodrama that uses "based on a true story" to sell tickets.
I can't blame the makers of the film, though. If I had the opportunity to make a load of money without the need to actually work for it, I would.

I agree. Its our history. It will always be in everyones mind. It is going to hurt some people to see this. But again it is still our history.

No one, no one will ever forget .

Movie critics....talk about making money without the need to actually work for it!

I'll see it and make up by own mind, not rely on some self-important blowhard movie critic to decide for me.....unless it's Jim, of course!

It's always good to form your opinion. As for myself, I won't be watching this movie. It looks like Titanic wrapped around two buildings, and I was forced into watching Titanic. It's just not my type of movie. If it were a historical documentary, it would be different. From the previews and such, though, it still looks like a cheesey drama with "inspired by" or "based on" a true story tagged on it.
As for movie critics working... well... they can't all be Joel Siegel.
As for whether or not the critic for IMDB is a self-important blowhard, I can't say for sure. I don't know the guy. I just read the stuff from time to time. Sometimes I agree with the reviews, sometimes I don't. I have the same problem with my g/f.

Re: World Trade Center

Any movie that redepicts 9-11 are too emotional for me to watch and do not provide any entertainment value. I could not stomach to watch Flight 93 and I think the same will be for WTS too.

When you see this "based on", about 5% is the true story, everything else is fiction. I am not a fan of Nick Cage, sans a couple of his early movies. He is in everything today, this, The Wickerman and Ghost Rider?

Re: World Trade Center

All the Chicago movie critics gave WTC rave reviews in today's paper...but as with the negative reviews, I will still see it and decide for myself.

moses, I certainly both understand and respect your decision not to watch the movie because of the emotion involved. That is exactly why I WILL see the movie however. For me, I never want to drift too far from remembering exactly how I felt on September 11th. I see so many people in my life for whom this has become just a distant memory. Not for me....I will never let myself forget how I felt that day. I understand people like moses for whom the movie brings up TOO MUCH emotion, and respect them. What I don't understand are people who want to sweep it all under the carpet, like it never happened, like the World is the same as it was before that day. It's not.

I hope that doesn't come off like a rant, it just means a lot to me, and I feel like I have a lot of friends here, and it's important that friends understand where you're coming from.

For me, why would I want to pay $10 to feel all solemn & shit, when I could've laughed or been excited with another movie? If the movie was truly epic like Schindler's List, then maybe I would see it. I went to see Munich and it was a downer. I have enough grief as it is, and I certainly don't want to pay for more.

I respect that, not trying to talk you into seeing it Moses. I just don't need every movie I see to make me leave the theatre having laughed or been excited. Nothing wrong with feeling solemn for a minute, especially if the story is based in fact (see; Platoon). I don't mind remembering how sad, angry and emotional I felt on 9/11/02....I don't want to forget that feeling, even just every once in awhile. I plan on seeing WTC tomorrow after work. I hope you try to understand my feelings as I try to understand yours.
