Comcast Dvr

Finally upgraded my Comcast HD box to DVR. So far it seems pretty cool. Does anyone have any opinions on comcast dvr? How does it compare to TIVO? I know ppl will say TIVO is better, but I would like to know why?

I have it as well and I enjoy it. I have not had a TiVo, but the Moto box is much better than the SA that I got with Charter.

Re: Comcast Dvr

I just leave my box on all the time, it seems to have issues if it is recording and you turn it on - there is no way to get it off of mute...

I love the fact that I can record CSI Miami every Monday night and not miss MNF.

Re: Comcast Dvr

Did you get a dual tuner HD DVR?? If so you got the best box out for Comcast. Has the highest amount of memory and is pretty fast.

I have 2 of them and use the F**K out of them every single day.

If anyone has issues with it turning off or resetting itself I would have someone check your outside line. It is not the box (They don't do that)

Oh tomorrow if you like Horror there is a new Horror network coming out on VOD just thought I'd let ya know.

I don't know about the Comcast DVR, but my directv DVR is great. I love it. It never fills up, and we record TONS of programs. I love being able to do that, and its super easy to use.

Re: Comcast Dvr

I have the SA8300 box, and it's garbage.

I've used the Moto box before and it's noticeably better. For example, if I'm watching a show that I missed the first 20 minutes of I can easily find out the next time it's on with Moto box... not with the SA.

Also, until very recently, you couldn't watch a show that was currently being recorded from the very beginning... it would jump you right into it live. It's not a big deal most of the time, but is very annoying when recording sports.

While the Moto box is much better than the SA, neither of them hold a candle to Tivo. Tivo wins out in the "little things" department, such as the automatic "jump back" that happens when you stop fast-forwarding to compensate for your delayed reaction. Tivo also does a much better job of not recording re-runs (if you tell it to), and staying away from episodes that you already have recorded.

I've got the Motorola box and the only comments that I have is that it fills up too quick if you're recording HD shows or movies. I've never had Tivo to compare to but I believe they offer multiple storage capacities on theirs.

The thing that pi$$es me off most about the box is that sometimes if you're watching one show while recording another, it tries to make to make you stop the recording when you try to change the channel you are watching.

I've also had two hard drives fail (both Motorola boxes) and had one loose all audio functions so I'm on box #4. Luckily it's free to swap them out and the office is on my way to work.

I've got the Timewarnercable Guy coming tomorrow I think I am getting the 8300. I've only had Tivo my whole life (you know what I mean). I dont know how I am going to hand the adjustment. Is there anything else I should worry about? They fixed that jump to live thing right? I almost always start my sport games late.......I'm scared

Re: Comcast Dvr

I recently switched to DirecTV with their new DVR. I was itching to get rid of the Comcast Motorola HD DVR. The box would be unresponsive, then after a minute, all of your remote commands would process causing the screen to go crazy. Random recordings coming up as 12/31/1978 (which if you try to delete, could corrupt other recordings). The HD space was pretty low.

Not knocking Comcast (NFL Season Ticket was my main reason for the switch), but the Moto DVR was just rough. I guess part of it was that I used a Tivo Series 2 DVR and that thing rocked. I would get the Series 3 but 1) No Sat TV & 2) $1000. Too expensive. Tivo rocks; I just hope they start selling their OS more than still trying to make hardware.

Re: Comcast Dvr

I have had Comcast DVR for over a week now and I must say I really enjoy it. Takes a while to get the hang of. Somethings I learned:

-add the 30 second skip hack to your remote
-start recording some shows early just in case
-series that are on both HD and Non-HD channels will get recorded on both channels.

If you've always used nothing but Tivo then you're definitely in for a rough ride.. just expect the worst, and you'll probably come out alright. Fortunately, they did fix the jump-to-live problem.. Now, when you select a program from the "My DVR" menu, you get an option to "start from the beginning".

Seriously, the SA8300 is a complete turd in the usability department when compared to Tivo. If you've never used a Tivo before, then I'm sure you'll end up thinking it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.... it's just us former Tivo users that are the problem -- we're cursed.

I'm pretty sure that's an option you get to choose when you schedule a series recording. You can tell it to record "...on this channel only" in which case it'll record whatever you've told it to, be it on the HD channel or the non-HD channel.
