Another River, Another Town, is the best World War II battle front account I have ever read. John P. Irwin has provided a wonderful memoir that allows the reader to feel the emotions and bewilderment of a typical teenager who found himself in furious combat for months. Knowing that the war was fought by young men who are experiencing life and the world for the first time under horrendous, confusing condidtions truly added to my understanding of this important period in history. This book is a fabulous addition to the literature of World War II.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in military history. ![]() |

very cool. i need another book to read on my next trip (which happens to be ft. bragg, nc) in a few weeks.
if you like military books, try almost anything by Leonard B. Scott (except for his FBI based books, kinda boring to me). namely The Hill, Charlie Mike, The Iron Men.

You will have to let me know what you thought of the book.
I will have to place Scott on my list of authors to read.

scott is most known for his vietnam based books. he was in the air cav/ranger/lrsu units himself, which most of his "charachters" are in as well.
"the iron men" is a great book, i think his best. spans from WWII up until the end of the cold war (if i remember correctly). i have read a few of his FBI Agent books, and they're alright, just not my type of book.
