Re: What Are You Reading/Watching/Listening To Right Now?

Not reading anything right now. Last book I read was "Three Junes", which was really well written.

I'm in the middle of watching "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" right now. It is based on the autobiography of Chuck Barris, and has been really interesting.

I've been listening to the latest albums from Ziggy Marley, Ben Harper, and Toots and the Maytalls a lot lately -- all are very good. Interspersed with my usual hard rock/punk/stoner rock/indie mix.

Confessions was a pretty good flick. Sam Rockwell is an underrated actor. I love Toots and the Maytals as well, though i haven't heard any in a long time. good stuff hoop!

Re: What Are You Reading/Watching/Listening To Right Now?

Watching: nothing

Listening: mostly nothing, jumping from station to station, genre to genre during commute to and from work.

Reading: My kids still enjoy having me read to them. We'll see how long I can keep that up, before they won't even want to admit knowing me in public. No doubt that's coming soon enough. Anyway. I'm reading Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to my son. It's taking forever because he usually falls asleep within a page or two. I'm reading Black Beauty to my daughter. For myself, I'm splitting my time between Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens, and The Path of Daggers, which is book 8 in the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. For any of you Tolkein fans out there, it's a good series. Lots of back story and presumed history, a la LOTR. My son convinced me to try it out, and I got hooked. There are 2 more books in the series after this one, and then there's a sort of pre-history installment (something like The Silmarilion I guess).

Re: What Are You Reading/Watching/Listening To Right Now?

reading: should be by comp 1 homework

watching: whatever my 4 yr old watches, mostly disney movies or cartoons.

listening: today is was Portishead, but mostly it's Bad Brains, Black Uhuru, Bob Marley (the best marley, that is). i popped in a Burning Spear CD a few weeks ago, haven't listened to that since i saw them in '94. of course the raspy Gregory Isaacs, a little bit of Lt. Stichie, Buju Banton, Bunny Wailer, Barrington Levy, Frankie Paul...
then when i want something harder, like during my skinhead youth, i mostly switch to Bad Brains, System of a Down, Black Flag, Youth of Today, Warzone, Bold, Uniform Choice... blah, blah, blah...
yes, i have a WIDE variety of music i listen to, mostly from the Hardcore stuff of the mid-late 80s, very few hard rock groups from today (although System of a Down is my current favorite), to a LOT of reggae, some classical, some oldies (sock-hop stuff)....

Re: What Are You Reading/Watching/Listening To Right Now?

The Robert Jordan series is good stuff, although I feel like he lost his way a little bit on the last few books. Hopefully he'll pick up the pace in the next one. Anyone who likes these (or Tolkien) should pick up "A Game of Thrones" by George R. R. Martin. It is the first book of a trilogy which is incredible. Rather dark, but impossible to put down.

I picked up "Get Born" by Jet and "Monolithic Baby!" by Monster Magnet at lunch today, so we'll see how those are . . .

Re: What Are You Reading/Watching/Listening To Right Now?

matter of fact, one of my p. tosh CDs is in my truck and i listened to it yesterday (my 4 yr old wanted to hear it - he prefers "daddy's songs" over "mommy's", and he really grooves to system of a down)... forgot the title, it has "downpressor man, let jah be praised, no sympathy" whichever one that is, forgot.
pinchers are alright. i actually am not too big on the dancehall stuff, unless they have a good sing-jay with them, like lovindeer, yami bolo, singing melody.
i prefer the singers/crooners. some dancehall can really rock though. the stop/go rythm of cutty ranks starts to get on my nerves a bit, but "the stopper" is a great track.
i had a 100 CD wallet snatched out of my car back in '96 that was chock full of great older reggae and a lot of my old hardcore stuff, things i know i'll never be able to replace.

Re: What Are You Reading/Watching/Listening To Right Now?

Read several good books lately although more chick style:

Secret Life of Bees
Angry housewives eating Bon Bons (hilarious)
Lucky by Alice Sebold
Currently reading A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson which I HIGHLY recommend to everyone. It's a very easy science read answering all those questions you wanted to know as a kid and never really understood in school, like how do we know how heavy the earth is, etc. Very interesting story like read.

Last good movie: The Chronicles of Riddick which I loved! and going to see the screening to Spiderman 2 on Monday night.

Music: well I don't think you'd like my tunes much...country music and let's just leave it at that!

PS Matt: If you get done with your book before SoCal, I'd love to read that Fred Rogers book!
