Little miss sunshine

Mom rented "Little miss sunshine" and "crank" last night. didn't see "Crank" yet, but she thought it was weird. "Little miss sunshine" on the other hand was an excellent movie! Love the acting and the story was right up my dysfunctional demented alley. I hope it gets nominated/wins all silly (and major) awards out there. Any of yall seen it?

It was a good movie, I didn't think it was nothing fantastic though, if you want to see a good movie about dysfunctional families check out the film called Squid and the Whale.

Crank is a very nice mother & daughter movie. You'll enjoy every moment of this heart pounding speed rush!

Little Miss Sunshine was a pretty good and fun movie. It helps make you feel normal.

And I'll nominate The Decent for the mother-daughter movie.

I really enjoyed LMS! It has that Indie movie feel. It's in the same mold as Lost in Translation, Garden State, and Stranger Than Fiction.... all of which I really liked. JMHO

Re: Little miss sunshine

It was OK and worth seeing, but I don't understand why it created so much buzz. It's no better or worse than a dozen other low-budget, character-based movies released last year.

Re: Little miss sunshine

I don't think I would have liked it nearly as much without Alan Arkin as the grandpa. There's just something about a Heroin-snorting old man dropping F-bombs that makes me smile...

I agree. His contribution was very important.

Come to think of it, with Alan Arkin, Greg Kinnear, and Steve Carrel, it was pretty star-studded for such a self-consciously "indy" offering.

I could be wrong on this but I do think this was the highest bought movie at Sundance ever, I think some studio paid 20 million for the film and also if I am not mistaken to be classified as an independent picture the movie is made for under 10 million. I could be wrong on both of these though.

That would be cool if we could find that out. It has an "indy" feel, but at the same time, it wasn't really indy. I keep thinking about the movie "Super Size Me" ...I wonder how much that one cost to make. Hell, I loved it.

I think it was $10.5M, but I could be wrong.

I'm quite sure I remember reading that during this year's Sundance coverage.

We just got the DVD in the mail today, and I guess we'll watch it soon. I hope it lives up to the hype!

certainly not worthy of the oscar nomination it received and a movie that you don't want to watch more than once. I just don't get off on a bunch of miserable dysfunctional people acting miserable and dysfunctional.
