Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Hey guys and gals... yeah I know, people will say "its a children's movie"... oh yeah? Well screw you, I like 'em

Anyway, I'm sure all the Potter fans have been very excited about the impending release of the 5th Harry Potter film. Arguably the largest book of the bunch (thus far) and probably my favorite just because of the Depth of the subject matter... which I dig. But I haven't actually heard any rumblings from any of the test screeners on this one yet. Apparently the movie had been held back for test screenings while some other issues were cleared up....

So.... apparently they just started the test screening process and one of the test screeners has already reported his thoughts..... SWEET!!

I'm actually pretty stoked about this flick. First two didn't do much for me as they were mainly geared towards younger kids. Still good movies just not really my speed. Third one REALLY caught my interest (and is the best so far IMO) when Cuaron took over directing duties and really started moving towards the "Dark" feel that the books take on. Just an amazing movie all around (Oldman rocks my socks!). If you didn't know Cuaron also did Children of Men (one of the best of '06) and Great Expectations. The fourth flick was still good (better than the first two but not as good as the third) and carried on with the darker more brooding image that Cuaron set.

Can't wait to see this one as Its my favorite book of the series so far.

Re: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

All right, I can admit it, I'm a goober because I've read all the books and seen the movies as well. My wife actually sent the first few books to me in Iraq. Everyone made fun of me, but after said people ran out of books to read, I got the old "Sir, is that Harry Potter chit any good?" My entire company was borrowing those damned things within a matter of weeks! Who knew a bunch of soldiers would be literally feining like crack whores for our wives to send the next book in the series?! People may call me a goober, but those books are entertaining as hell! They are such quick reads, and you don't have to worry about highlighting and making notes in the margins (I hate professional reading)- BRILLIANT!

My fiancee got me hooked on them. I love the audio books on a long drive. Makes it go faster. Thanks for posting I'll get some kudos from the girl from getting in on this before her.

Re: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I'm not a fan of Harry Potter. When I got into 8th grade I'd already read all the lit books either back in elementary school or in my leisure time. My teacher gave me the first Harry Potter book to read and I found it formulaic and unsatisfying.

I've watched some of the movies, and I have to admit they're a lot of fun.

Not that Star Wars was all that original to begin with...

My wife and I, and the kids, are all about these movies. And the books. I agree with you Dustin that the last two were way better than the first two. My wife and I will be at the theatres opening night. Just to preview it to make sure it's okay for the kids, of course.

My wife hates them. I dont have kids yet so I dont know if they will or not. BUT I LOVE THEM. Very hard to get the misses to let me have the TV so I can watch them.

Re: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

So, my wife and I went to the midnight showing this morning and we loved it. It stayed very close to the book with some details cut out for timing sake and the visual effects are getting better and better. It started out a little slow, but by then end we were elated with the picture. It's darker than the previous ones IMO, but it's still great. I'm biased, though, cause I love all the movies.

The wife wants to go back to see it at the IMAX as well. Not sure if we're going to take our youngest (4). Like I said, it's a little dark. She might not like it.
