Kings of Leon

Well, I thought i'd let some people here in on a new band I found out about called Kings of Leon. They have a indie/southern rock ( ) sound and it was one amazing concept to mix.

Their first album: Youth and Young Manhood is a powerful first album with licks that remind me of Chuck Berry and The Allman Brothers Band. The vocals are different in their own sense but once you get used to the scratchy vox you can't stop listening.

The Second album: Aha! Shake Heartbreak holds such goldmines as "King of the Rodeo" and "Four Kicks", holding ground with lyrics about schoolyard fights and love at the rodeo.

The Third album (not yet released, April 3rd): Because of the Times will be a sure hit, they have the catchy "On Call" (which is what turned me on to KoL when I heard it on our radio station) and "Knocked Up" are a couple of my favorites, but the CD is full of great music. They kind of leaned more towards the indie side but it is still a well done piece of art.

I would recommend starting with their first CD and then working up to their new one, just to get a taste of what they are all about. My best friend didn't like their new stuff until he heard their old stuff first, then we went and listened to them outside Stubb's (In Austin, TX) for SXSW and now I am buying tickets for me and my girl for their Houston show on May 12th.

They have about 4 songs on their ranging around all their CDs, give it a listen and tell me what you think.

Re: Kings of Leon

I saw em 2 years ago at the TLA in Philly. They are SOOOO much better live than the albums. My roommate had an extra ticket and asked if I wanted to go so I wanted to see what their music was like and he gave me their album. I put it in and was generally unimpressed, but I had already agreed to go. Holy SHIT! I was shocked at how great their show was.

I tried getting into these guys a couple of years back but I couldn't. Admittedly, I've only listened to the tracks that are played on MTV2 (both older and their newer material) but they don't do anything for me.

Re: Kings of Leon

strangely they're much more popular in England than in America...I really like them though. They also seem popular among people who select songs for TV and Commercials and stuff, I keep on hearing their songs. I just heard one of their songs on csi: miami the other day.
