Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

So I know where some of you guys were midnight on Saturday. Standing in line at the bookshop wearing fake glasses and a black gown. Me too. Well, except for the fake glasses and a black gown part. My daughter and I picked up three copies, one for her and one each for two of her friends. She started reading the moment she got home but half an hour later she was in bed, fast asleep. Kids today just don't have the stamina!

I guess many of you will be finishing up the book today. So what's the verdict? A satisfying conclusion to the saga? Does Harry die? Was Snape a good guy or a bad guy (I've got $10 riding on the answer to that question).

I thought it was an excellent book, perhaps the best of the bunch. As far as your questions go, I'm not going to reveal any spoilers here but you can shoot me a PM if you really want to know.

Finished it about an hour ago; I'm with Sean, best of the series.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I finished it about 7am the morning it came out. Good stuff.

I wonder what the parents who bought the book for their kids will think. It has a very different tone than the first six. Great ending!!

I think the last one hundred or so pages were so good I couldn't have put the book down if I'd wanted to.

I have felt that since Goblet of Fire the series jumped up quite a bit in the age group for whom the books were intended. Wonder if she only considered the group that was 11 or 12 when the first book came out and grew with the series. The intent might have been for future kids to read a book every other year. Possibly dumb theory but defensible. Paul

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Definitely the best of the series. It's really a testament to JK's ability as a writer. Despite the pressure of creating one of the greatest book series, her skill never wavered. It's incredible that the books only got better as the series progressed. I was very happy with the conclusion. I know it's sad but my wife and I actually had to buy two copies because neither of us wanted to wait a day for the other to finish.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Referring to the age of readers, I was less surprised at the darker tone as I was at what Mrs. Weasley says towards the end, never thought I'd see that in a childrens book unless it was a really old one about dogs.
