Question for the port drinkers

I am just trying my first port right now, I really am digging this. Gonna light a cigar in a little bit. Now my question, once I open a bottle what is the shelf life on it? If I finished the bottle now I would be streaking to the quad (shameless old school reference).I am a serious lite weight when it comes to alcohol in general, but don't want to waste any of this tasty stuff.

Thanks,
Tim

Port will keep longer than red wine. Depending on temperature, usually best drunk within a couple of weeks. From there it will slowly deteriorate, but probably still drinkable for a month or more. Keep it recorked in a cool place and you should be fine.

I agree. You've got on the matter of weeks if you keep it is a cool dark place.

awesome thanks. I have no experience with wine either but hoped it would keep longer.

The one thing that kills wine and or port is oxygen. If u can, put what is left in a smaller bottle and seal it, thatwill give it less air sapce in the bottle.
Take it from a home winemaker, air kills your open wine.

Re: Question for the port drinkers

Generally, port will last a week or so depending on style and age. This is a very general answer. Serve port at 60 degrees.

Port will not make you turn into a fool if you had too much tipple.

Never start off drinking port (or any fine beverage) with a cigar. Start off with the drink, then move into the port after you have accessed the port.

Here is Saturday Night's selection of port we drank:
