Fire Sauce from the Moglman
So after the initial Vegemite Taste Test some time back and interesting Inter-continental EXCHANGE has ensued between Scott and myself. His latest was some wonderfully HOT Habanero Sauces for me to try which I promised that I would provided a review on. So here goes.
The victim (apart from me) was a choice peice of Scotch Fillet Steak cooked just the way I like it..... REAR. The Method, a little tab on the side of the plate and thinly spread on the steak. The sauces in question were: 357 Possible Side Effects and Z 357 Aroma - A sweet spicy aroma which reminded me of... Christmas cake oddly enough. While this aroma is pleasant in its self the hint of the potency of the sauce is enough to make you pull you head back from the bottle and think to yourself "do I really want to eat this??" Consistency - The sauce is a little watery and when some is left on the plate the water tends to evaporate a little leaving behind the evidence of destruction. Taste - I found this sauce to be the hottest, probably obvious enough considering its name which eludes to the scorville units, and has an immediate effect on the palette which if you're not knowing what to expect.... and I wasn't, can hit you hard and bring you to tears. The taste had a slight sweetness to it and is quite strong of Habanero. PSE Aroma - To me it had a definate roasted Capsicum smell and after inspecting the label for ingredients I noted that it listed roasted Jalapenos so this explains that roasted smell. Consistency - PSE is not watery at all, more pasty like in its consistency but obviously still runny enough to pour. Taste - It was interesting to note how the 3 sauces effected the palette. You would think hot sauce = burnt lips, runny nose and teary eyes. However PSE takes its time and slowy warms the mouth making think, Mmmm might put some more on... stupid The heat eventually intensifies leaving you with a wonderfully HOT mouth. The taste was very smokey, once again those roasted Jalapenos are coming through and, despite the heat, very nice.Z Aroma - This sauce was hard to put a finger on but the aroma tended to be fruity, sort of a stewed fruit kinda smell. Consistency - Z has by far the most water content and this is visible when viewing the bottle as the water has risen to the top and all the goodies have sunk to the bottom. Giving the bottle a good shake I poured some onto the plate and soon the water was evaporating.. not a good sign, evaporation = heat... yikes. This leaves quite a pasty and somewhat more chunky residue of yummy stuff on the plate. When I say chunky it is of a micro size, just that what ever has gone into this sauce is not ground up as much as the other 2 sauces ingredients. Taste - Once again I was surprised at the effect on the mouth, this sauce seemed to go straight for the back of the throat, not hot, but a definate warm sensation toward the back of the throat. The taste itself was a spicy fruit kinda taste that was most enjoyable. So that's my wee review, yes I know I said I would post pic's as well but I figured that pic's of me crying like a baby would not do my reputation a lot of good here amongst my fellow Gorillas and decided I would get myself acclimatized 1st Seriously though I did not have the camera on hand but will post pic's soon. Thanks Scott for giving me the opportunity to try these sauces, next time give me good warning and I will run out and jump off a tall building 1st. Not sure where this will lead too but if you think you have something hotter and are thinking I'm gonna toast this Kangaroo by sending him some... KEEP IT!! No just kidding, its been a blast and have throughly enjoyed trying new things. I love hot food and no doubt I will have these sauces for some time as a little goes a loooooong waaaaaay. Scott you are testament to why CS is a groovy place, thanks mate.

Re: Fire Sauce from the Moglman
That is pretty cool, Jason, a very good review. Heat can be good, but distinguishing the tastes is excellent. I think you did a great job at busting the different features from each sauce. You really knocked me down with your bomb, but I'll also post reviews. I expect some flavorful fun.
I am thinking, vegemite and hot sauce aside, you are a first class botl and a devilish gorilla. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. Wait until next time ... ![]() |
