Sam Adams Summer Ale

Crap...It's still hot and I've been on the motorcycle a bit so it's time for a beer. The beer today is:

Beer: Sam Adams Summer Ale
Type: American Pale Wheat Ale
Brewed by: Boston Beer Company...Sam Adams
Price: on sale at Kroger...$6.99 a sixer
ABV: 5.2%
How consumed: 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass

Reading up a bit on this beer before I drank it revealed it is brewed with lemon zest and grains of paradise...grains of paradise being a rare pepper from Africa that has been used in brewing since the 13th century. I found the grains of paradise kinda interesting.

So on with the review...

The pour: I poured this beer straight out of the fridge into an un-chilled pint glass. It appeared to be rather thin and yellow colored. The head was about one finger tall and quickly went away. It smelled of light hops with a floral note. As the beer was consumed I noticed no lacing on the sides of the glass.

The taste: My initial impression was a rather grassy taste with a bit of lemon. It's pretty thin in the mouth feel with minimum carbonation. It finished sweet with just a small dose of pepper...Yep I think I tasted the grains of paradise.

Overall impression: It ain't a bad beer...There is just not much going on with it that grabs my attention. It's a nice hot weather beer that you can have a few with your buds. I really prefer Blue Moon. It seems to have a bit more flavor.

On a scale of 1-10 I give it a solid 7.

You can never go wrong with just about any Sam Adams imo. Cept for maybe the cranberry crap

Love Summer Ale - in fact, love all their specialty brews. Well, except the aforementioned Cranberry Wheat and the "original" flavor - Boston Lager? Don't like that one either.

Their Black Lager is an excellent beer for pairing with many cigars.
