Um... are you speaking of beer? We might want to move this to the "Five O'Clock" forum.

My grampa, dad's dad, blowed himself up when the still went up back when my dad was a kid. My old man had 5-6 bottles leftover from the early 1950s I took when my dad died last year. I tried it and then used one bottle as paint remover. I found a guy who loved homemade and let him try it. He loved it and took the rest of what I had. That stuff'll kill ya

For the $$, I buy all my own

My family has had strong ties to 'shine in the past (I now live in Florida, but my family has been in East TN (Smokies) for over 350 years). My grandmother was raised on Moonshine Mountain, just outside Wear's Valley, TN (which is near Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg, and regrettably is being ruined by overdevelopment and tourism...GRRR). She had some old stuff, but that all disappeared when she died a few years ago. Unlike wine, moonshine (or whiskey, other spirits) doesn't improve with age when stored in glass containers. It needs to be sealed up in a barrel or other suitable container for long term aging.

My father used to make shine int the attic of the house I was raised in. The barrel still sits there to this day. Bet you it has some in it. Don't drink anymore but, when I did. We would generally drink it around the holidays. Always aged and treated and left underground for a multitude of years. Amazing how smooth it bcomes with different additives. To the right minds this thread should be very valuable.............

He sold the house and I don't dare ask the new owners about it. They will never figure out that, they have a room in the attic. The entrance is going up the stairs to the third floor. My Dad, his Dad and his Dad before him were shine makers from P.R..

Brings back alot of good memories. I never tried it myself but my father in law, who i was blessed to have before we lost him to cancer, lived on top of a mountain in Appalachia used to always pull out a mason jar when we were listening to bluegrass and harass me to "just try a sip". Never did but sure do miss his hijinx.
