mayo

anyone here ever made their own mayo? I had to make my own because my son is allergic to soy (and everything seems to have soy nowadays). I watched Alton Brown do it, and it seemed easy, so I made my own. real easy and tastes much better than store bought

That's one thing I've always wanted to try, but never managed to get around to it. My girlfriend has a list of foods that she doesn't want me to screw with-I think mayo is on the list. Staples that she has grown up with, family recipes that I can't alter etc. Usually I take full creative control in the kitchen and just go for it.

do it! I used this recipe, substituting cider vinegar for the white vinegar and adding a dash of paprika (alot of mayos have paprika in them)

on another mayo related line, does anyone eat their french fries with flvored mayo? I love mayo with some chipotle in it to dip my fries into. I also like garlic flavored and some times just regular as well.

Thanks for the recipe I will definately give it a try. I have been eating mayo on my fries for years. Everyone thinks I am crazy until they try it. Sorry to hear about your son's allergy. I know what you are going through though. My wife is allergic to a lot of things. And yes soy is in just aboyt everything everything.

I read up on the soy allergy, and researchers are linking it to the genetically modified strain of soy released in 1996. They figure about 30% of peanut allergies diagnosed since 1996 are actually allergies to the GM soy (which is pretty much whats grown now)
