BRASSERIE DUPONT Saison Dupont

[Corona Gigante]

This beer has been showing up in some of the higher end liquor and grocery stores recently. I tried a bottle last night.

...made by Brasserie Dupont, a farmhouse brewery in western Belgium. Its Saison Dupont Vieille Provision is crisp and well balanced, with a hint of citrus and a slightly bitter finish that leaves you eager for more.

I couldn't agree more, Jim.

6.5% abv, clearer and lighter in flavor than, say Chimay red label, an ideal summer evening libation. Went very well with my dinner of Italian sausage, pan friend potatoes, and brocolli. I think an SLR Serie 'A' would complement the sweetness and floral notes very well.

Definatly a great beer. A classic. Glad to see it getting some love. Its also very good with roast turkey.

In the winter they release Dupont Avec les Bons Voeux which is a big (9.5%) saison that is unbelievable:

A work of art. Pours hazy orange with a fluffy white head. Aroma is of hay, citrus, a slight barnyard, vanilla, and a mild peppery spice. Flavor is same as the aroma but with the addition of a buttery cider and a mild banana ester. The palate is extremely creamy and smooth. The alcohol is not noticible except possibly as a warmth that makes the flavors brighter. Every time you take a sip you get a different layer of flavor. And all of the layers fit together perfectly. The best saison I have had to date.
