White Port

I was curious to hear some opinions on white ports. I picked up a bottle of Dow's fine white for Sunday, thinking my wife may try it. Typically she doesn't like Tawny or Ruby.

Most of the info I read makes it sound like a super sweet white. Maybe similar to an ice wine?

Just wondering if anyone has given this oddball a go?

Re: White Port

Having grown up in a Portuguese neighborhook, I was fortunate to be exposed to all ports.
It is a matter of preference of course, but port to me is like a woman. Only kick her out of bed if the floor is bigger.

Re: White Port

White port is quite good. The Dow white port is an excellent example and an excellent price point in my book. I heard that in Portugal, white port is quite popular; more so than red. I haven’t picked up a bottle in some time and Dow is the only one most stores have. It’s made in a way like Tawny port is done. Good to hear I am not the only one who has tried it…

It’s more like red port than sherry in taste, just a little lighter perhaps. Most of the sherry I buy is Amontillado or Oloroso; not much for the really sweet stuff.
