Thumbs up Resident Evil 5

If you have a Playstation 3 or xBox 360, this is a must have game!

Such amazing graphics on an HD system with an HD television. A bit better on PS3 since its bluray, and as always PS3 online gaming is fast, easy, and free.

Resident Evil has always been one of my favorite video game series. It invented the survival horror genre of games. The first one terrified me as a kid but I couldn't stay away. Trapped in a huge creepy mansion with limited weapons and way to many enemies (isn't possible to kill every enemy in the game). Was such a dark and gory game battling mutants, zombies and other creatures created by a biological virus. Resident Evil revolutionized the way of the zombie. Before Resident Evil, a zombie was a creature from some 1930's black and white film that would arise from the dead and be slow walking with its hands out in front saying "brains... must eat brains...". Resident Evil inspired great video games such as Silent Hill, Deadspace, Left4Dead and many other games in the survival horror genre. They have even had 3 major motion picture films and inspired others such as 28 Days Later, 40 Days of Night, a remake of Dawn of the Dead and even spoof movies like Shawn of the Dead. Its now a common them amongst multiple medias that zombies and other inhuman creatures were the effect of biological experiments gone wrong (or was it gone wrong?).

Resident Evil 4 revolutionized the series, capturing the Game of the Year award from Gamespot.com in 2005. It was without doubt one of my all time favorite games. The reason Resident Evil was so scary was because you had such limited ammo and resources and had to fight off such dead forces. The controls were often pretty bad making it even harder. But in Resident Evil 4 they made such smooth and easy to use controls and tons of Ammo and different weapons. It became more of a first person shooter with a combination of survival horror. I've played and re-played it about 20 times since 2005, its such a fun experience replaying it with the strong weapons you obtain through your previous games and manhandling your enemies. The graphics were also amazing as well.

I was a bit disappointed that Resident Evil got some bad reviews and only an 8.5 rating by Gamespot.com. But after I read the reviews I could tell that people were just being idiots, and saying "its too much like the past Resident Evil's". Newsflash, if you don't like a series of games, don't buy the new releases expecting it to be a different game. Resident Evil is Resident Evil. They found great success with the new formula used in Resident Evil 4 that they decided to continue with that. Would be foolish not to. They just made some new features and adjustments to improve the current system in place that was so succesful in Resident Evil 4. People were expecting more changes.

I bought the collectors edition version of this game, and $80.00 value off of eBay for $50.00 brand new sealed with shipping. I've had it about a week and have beaten it twice in about 20 hours of playing. I'm a veteran player of First Person Shooters and the Resident Evil series, so that is a pretty fast time, 10 hours per play through. If your new to the series be expected to spend maybe twice that your first few play throughs until you get use to it and get better weapons.

The graphics are down right ridiculous. I cannot decide which has better graphics, Resident Evil 5 or Metal Gear Solid 4. They are very similar, despite running on different graphic engines by different companies. Ultra realistic and very sharp clean graphics. Whats cool about Resident Evil 5 though is you can go from extreme dark to extreme light. As soon as you walk out from an under ground mine or a dark building, the light is blaring bright and you cannot see much of anything for a few seconds. The colors and shading is very realistic as well, no over use of bright colors and overly bright characters.

The controls were great, as they were based on that of Resident Evil 4. I was a bit disappointed at first that you couldn't change the way the camera functioned (I prefer opposite axis controls for camera and Aiming weapons), but I quickly adjusted to the new controls.

The gameplay was great. A lot of cool weapons and secret unlockable weapons and other equipment and features. Like the previous Resident Evil's, once you beat the game you can replay it with the same gear from your previous game making you much stronger. With better gear and a good knowledge about the game, replaying the game is just so much better. There are two playable characters, just like the original version of Resident Evil. Online mode is great as well.

Storyline was also great. Continued with characters from old Resident Evils and a new adaptation to viruses from previous games as well. New mutants and creatures made the boss fights thrilling and intense. The normal enemies are even faster, stronger, and more brutal than ever seen before. Take that you slow walking unintelligent zombies! Fast, ferocious, and furious, not the ideal enemies you would want to be facing! Just adds to the suspense.

Overall I'd give this game a 9.2 out of 10. A must have in your video game colelction. Thrills, chills and some bad ass kills.

Re: Resident Evil 5

I just borrowed this game from a friend yesterday. I find the controls tough to get used to. I am an old school FPS guy so conserving ammo and not killing everything is a hard gear to shift into.

But from I am now in 2-2 and really enjoying the game.

If you need any help give me a shout or check out gamespot.com

For your first play through, take your time be cautious and play thorough. There is a lot of hidden treasures you might miss if your not looking. And that adds up to a lot for new weapons and stuff.

Re: Resident Evil 5

The only question I had was about upgrading weapons. Should I wait and upgrade later, or spend the money on the basic pistol at the start?

I upgraded my main pistol right away.

I also used a mp5. My pistol was the strongest though out of everything.

I need to rent this game again and beat it again.

Up whatever you can, focus on one thing so you can max its ups and then move onto another weap. I try to keep 1 handgun, 1 machine gun, 1 shotgun, and 1 heavy weapon on me. Hand guns are kind of obsolete later in the game. I use Hand Cannon maxed with infinite ammo, Hydra shotgun maxed with infinite ammo, one of the machine guns maxed with infinite ammo, and the first sniper rifle maxed.

Every weapon has its ups and down. The first handgun can hold 100 bullets and has nice critical bonuses. Out of all the rifles, the first one has the most power, but you need to reload after each shot since it isn't semi-auto.
