Don't forget World of Warcraft :: Allakhazam.com a good source for beginners; quest walk-throughs, maps, etc..

I would also suggest a hunter, as they are realitevely easy & powerful. mages 2nd.. i could never get my preist or paladin to work properly !!

When choosing a character, note that some races with help or hinder a particular class & profession. such as: a gnome mage & engineering. the Gnome has an intelect & engineering bonus, so yo ucan level pretty fast. Trolls have the axe bonus, etc..

Trolls have bow-bonus, Orcs have Axe-bonus. =P. Trolls IMO make the best hunters hehe but I'm biased. (see Berserking, bow specialization). At high-levels, however, it becomes incredibly obvious if you're a huntard. They're good for leveling, but you really do have to know what you're doing in order to be effective.

I agree Allakhazam has some really decent info. Also try wowhead.
If you are looking to become alliance (Yuck) you can try Khaz Modan server. they are currently 3:1 alliance to horde ratio.

If you are new to wow my suggestion would be starting a druid as they can be a tank, a dps (cat form, and moonkin) and a healer. I am bias however having 2 druids myself.

I think last time I checked my server (Anvilmar) is only 15% horde. There were only like 2 horde dominated servers =(.

Its a shame. I dont understand why everyone chooses alliance. Dont they know the alliance are actually the "bad guys" There is nothing wrong with playing a cow! I'm happy to be a part of the underdog team!

For the Horde! I recently rolled an undead warlock on Twisting Nether. He just hit 20 last night. Also have a level 50 Tauren warrior on the same server, but it's slow going trying to level a warrior.

I was a GM for a guild in Stormscale, played a pally. I have a love / hate relationship with WoW. I love the endgame content when you are playing with friends, but it tends to be repetitive. You kill yourself getting gear only to be replaced by greenies a few months down the line, and when you look at it, there is only so many variations of the same thing over and over before it becomes repetitive and boring. We were a pretty decent guild, about 50 members, most of us from the same workplace or real life friends. Now we are all playing different things. I think we will all play star wars the old republic once its out.

BTW it is a fact that blizzard has put all their heavy hitters's attention to a new mmo they plan to release. A few days ago there was an interview with someone from blizzard who talks about many of the flaws in the game.
