Anyone here play World of Warcraft on-line game? I just got into it today and am trying to figure it out. A bit overwhelming at first. Would like to hear from anyone who plays and might have some beginner advice. Thanks.

I don't play much anymore but have been in the game for 3+ years. I'll try to answer any questions you have.

Re: World of Warcraft

There are many online resources catering to the WoW community. One of the best is Wowinsider.com. It has a lot of information broken down for character type. They have one weekly feature aimed at people who are new to the game. The official Warcraft site is also a good source of info for beginners although I've never found their forums to be much help, mostly people complaining about one thing or another. Also, never be afraid to ask questions ingame, a lot of people are more then happy to help new players. By the way, what server are you on?

Re: World of Warcraft

Not familiar with that server name, I hope it isn't a pvp server. I have characters on Khadgar and Malygos, all alliance. If you had one there I could send you some gold ingame and help you out from time to time. Let me know if you start one on either of those servers. But remember, if it's a Horde character I can't do much for you.

Re: World of Warcraft

The guides that I've seen are pretty much just copies of the info available on the official warcraft site although it is helpful to have something that has maps in it for reference. Just make sure that if you buy a guide book that it's the one for the game you have and not one for one of the later expansions.

My only recommendation is that you not start out on a pvp server, anyone from the opposing faction can kill you at any time there. It makes learning the game very frustrating if you're dead all the time. If you start on one of the servers I'm on I'll help you out. Khadgar is the one I'm on most often.

Re: World of Warcraft

FOR THE HORDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have nothing to say to you you Alliance scum.

Just kidding! Check out the different races/classes that you can be, I was told by a friend that Hunters are a good first character, and I love mine! I obviously play Horde, but it's just a personal preference thing. Like Warren said, you get ganked enough times it gets really frustrating. Better to do the ganking. Join a guild, level to 80, raid, pvp, farm for gold, and have fun! It really is a great game in that it is very multi-faceted. But beware, it's like the Devil Site... You may find you lose track of a lot of time in there lol!

Re: World of Warcraft

eye shack has shared some valuable info....By my count there are two types of players...The casual player and the addict. For my initial playing I was a casual player. It took me forever to lvl my character and do quests successfully. When i figured out raiding it got a little more fun. When I figured out the battle grounds, it got even more fun. I soon learned what it was to twink out a character, that is make an ultra powerful x9 lvl character that can dominate in the battle grounds. I did that for a while, then lvld to the top and started working on arena gear. PVP combat in WOW is some of the best online gaming, though I have since quit before the newest expansion...If you do get addicted WOW can be much worse than the devil's sight. One can blow money and gain money back, but you cant do that with time...You can type the command "/played" to get the time you ahve spent on whatever character you are on. My advice is to keep it fairly casual and have fun : ) Good Luck to you...BTW my main was a Horde Elemental Shammy...Was fun while it lasted... Warlocks and mages are always fun classes....I heard pallys are good in the expansion...I wish i could play every now and again..

Re: World of Warcraft

Hey Jer, I totally understand and respect your position. I started playing because I was hit in a car accident pretty badly, as a pedestrian. I couldn't move for 2 weeks so I would just play WoW. Before I knew it I had hit 70 and now I've got my 80 hunter, 3rd best geared in my guild, dishing out anywhere from 3.5-6k dps depending on the fight... But there's a line to draw and I've felt myself teetering that line before. I know I've crossed that line with other things in my life, which is why now I smoke cigars and that's it. Hey man, if you're like me with other things, grats on staying WoW free. You're not missing much. Plus, I bet you have some pigment in your skin again! hahaha!

Re: World of Warcraft

WoW her too.. On a few servers.. Alliance & horde.. Currently am on Sen'jin
(Severoflane.. soemthign like that..)

Don't forget World of Warcraft :: Allakhazam.com a good source for beginners; quest walk-throughs, maps, etc..

I would also suggest a hunter, as they are realitevely easy & powerful. mages 2nd.. i could never get my preist or paladin to work properly !!

When choosing a character, note that some races with help or hinder a particular class & profession. such as: a gnome mage & engineering. the Gnome has an intelect & engineering bonus, so yo ucan level pretty fast. Trolls have the axe bonus, etc..
