"Grassy" taste in cigars

Maybe I'm weird (okay, it's a given) but I actually LIKE that certain grassy character in cigars from time to time. I know it's supposedly a sign of "young" tobacco in need of more aging or whatever, but I enjoy the flavor nonetheless, assuming the cigar has a good depth of flavor otherwise. The trouble is, I can't seem to repeat the experience by simply ordering more of the same cigar. "Grassiness" is apparently an elusive quality.

The guy at my local B&M suggested Cohiba but he didn't think they carried in stock what I wanted. Question is, does anybody know where to find this characteristic? NC or CC doesn't matter.

Re: "Grassy" taste in cigars

Grassiness is not specific to young cigars. Unless you're talking about ammonia? Grassy tasting cigars include Cohiba and Cuaba. What brand are the cigars you smoked you found "grassy"?

Re: "Grassy" taste in cigars

I just remembered that I used to think that young Montesinos had a grassy flavor to them. I haven't had one in something like eight or nine years, though, so I don't know if that's still the case.

Fuente makes the 858 in a claro (green) wrapper; nice and grassy but rich.

Can someone define what "grassy" tastes like? Are we talking how hay might taste? Fresh lawn clippings?

Not ammonia, which is easy for me to identify. But you ask what brand and there have been several, yet it's always been a one-time thing so that the next cigar of the same kind is lacking that certain flavor. I have a couple of Siglo VIs on hand that I haven't tried yet so we'll see about them.

Re: "Grassy" taste in cigars

Wow, getting some nice suggestions here, which I really appreciate.

"Grassy" -- yes, maybe something like fresh hay, not too vegetal -- a more-or-less drier quality. Flavors can be so difficult to describe!

It's kind of like describing a "leather" taste in a cigar...no one really goes around licking their sofa, ( n) but it's like tasting what the thing smells of. So I guess grassy is a taste approximating what fresh-mown grass smells like.

I had a Cuban about a year ago and I recall the distinct flavor of fresh asparagus, it was that grassy. It's a flavor profile I enjoy.

I have some Montesino Diplomaticos in the Candela wrapper that are grassy to me. I can send you a couple.

I find the Fuente curly head & Padilla 8-11 pretty grassy... might just be my tastes though?

Re: "Grassy" taste in cigars

in reference to the cuban cohiba "grassy" I consider it more lemongrassy, bready, barnyardy than green clorophyll fresh cut grass.
