I just came back from the Sweetwater Package Store and they had 1 bottle left of 10 Cane Rum. Its a very attractive bottle and the rum looks tasty! I've never had rum made of pure cane sugar. Unfortunately I won't be trying any tonight as I'm heading to a herf at Highland Cigar Co. in Atlanta but I'll let you guys know how the rum is tomorrow night.

Anoyne ever try Navan cognac? Its made by the makers of Grand Marnier and is a premium cognac infused with real vanilla. It has a syrupy consistency and starts sweet with a nice alcohol finish. I think it pairs well with stronger smokes and on a cold night after a meal is a great way to finish the day.

It would make a nice intro to cognac for those who never tried it.

Nice, thanks for that. I will have to get some and try it out. Sounds good, if you have never tried that Prunier....get some!

I love my bourbon with one cube of ice, nothing else. Occasionally, I'm in the mood for having it served neat. I'll admit, I cringe when I see someone mix soft drinks with a good bourbon or scotch, but to each their own

IMO, serving cognac with ice is like drinking a nice Napa cabernet on the rocks.

Re: Favorite Cognac and cigars!!!

The following are Cognacs that I have had with cigars:

My favorite is Martell Cordon Bleu. This goes well with anything. Hard to find in my area, and around $100.00 a bottle when you do.

Remy Martin VSOP
Remy Martin Grand Cru
Remy Martin 1738 Accord Royal

Of the above, I like the latter the best. However, I enjoy all three. I have not had a bad Remy Martin.

Delamain Vesper
Delamain Grande Champagne

The former was my favorite of these two. Since I have switched over to Scotch as my preferred drink, I do not keep as much Cognac around. Consequently, I have not picked up any Delamain Vesper in a while.

Courvoisier VSOP

This is the cognac that most of the people I know judge other cognacs by. I find it a bit harsh for my liking and will take the Martell over it any day.

Hennessy XO

A big favorite in the area and readily available. Much like the Courvoisier, a bit harsh and unrefined for me. Good with Coke.

This is my experience. Also, try some armanac if the cognac is too harsh. You may have some problems finding it, however.

Punch,

Well stated, and you have tried some great cognac's. Mine is limited, but rum is a different story for me.

I have this cuban rum that is out of this world.

Re: Favorite Cognac and cigars!!!

Punch, nice write up there.
May have to give them another try, but I think I prefer the Remy GC over the Martell CB, but for the price the XO Supreme is by far so much better. Camus and Meukow also have some nice offerings btw.
Although I don't drink cognacs as often as I used to, I can handle anything VSOP and up, that is of course in terms of drinking and not so much the price.
For a while now I'm more into Spanish Brandies and lately, heavily into port.

The Meukow is readily available in my area, but I have never tried it. I will have to remedy that. Spanish Brandy? I'll add that to my list, too. I have had some German brandies that are also pretty good. It is an interesting thing with Brandy. A lot of people think of Brandy as a cheap Cognac. I don't agree. I think that a lot of VSOP Brandies are a lot smoother and flavorfull than the VS Cognacs that I have tried, and also a lot of VSOP Cognacs at twice the price.

If it were not for my ulcers, I'm sure that I would be an alcoholic. Nothing like having a natural drink limiter.

Re: Favorite Cognac and cigars!!!

Best inexpensive label of cognac is Remy Martin, hands down. It may give a little in aroma and bouquet to some of the other guys, but it more than makes up for it in smoothness. It has almost none of the harshness that I get from some of the other brands. I usually drink the VSOP, but the VS is still quite good, and for $30 (in KS) you cant beat it.

So, I got a bottle of Remy Martin VSOP. I had a little bit in a wine glass and it's great, but how are you supposed to drink it? With ice?

Re: Favorite Cognac and cigars!!!

Aboard ship, I had the opportunity to try some Armagnac - which I found to be smoother than the Cognacs I have sampled. Of course, the Armagnac comes from dried plums rather than grapes.
