The larve were in the hatching stage. One of the pupils was dead and another IS STILL alive. I also think 2 of the larve are still alive also. I am keeping them in the same zip lock bag as my own experiment to see if they can escape. I don't think they can.

I totally agree. I know some guys talk about prophylactically freezing all their sticks, that just can't be good for them. I had to do that after an outbreak many years ago and they tasted flat after that. Don't freeze unless you have to.

Re: Beetles...They do exist

I recently had a beetle outbreak as well. A few days in the freezer, and all is well again .

It does not hurt them, at all. You do know they are frozen before they ever hit the stores by manufacturers and even some retailers. So by your theory they would be "flat" from the start.

Check out this thread. It's long but a good read: http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthr...ghlight=freeze

Here is a CA article about it. http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar...4,1613,00.html

Im shedding a tear right now.

Is it me, or does it seem like Habanos are more prone to beetles than NC smokes?

Well I have sent PM's to anyone I've sent cigars to recently, just to let them know.

This specific cigar was a habano that I picked up at LCDH in Grand Caymen. It was in a sealed zip lock since I got home from Caymen in June. That's why I feel I'm safe as is everyone else.

I'm not sure Habanos are frozen before they are sent to retailers. Does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks for the links. If this were true, then beetles should be unheard of with recent vintage Habanos. Is that the case?

I don't have the box code because they were all loose in bins at LCDH. When I asked, she told me they were all from 2006.

Really? That is different from the LCDH in Montreal. Sometimes they will move the previous boxes contents into the newest opened box. But they never just put them loose into a bin. Interesting.

Now that I think of it, they may have been in boxes, but they were under glass and if they were boxes, they had the lids removed. But I am pretty sure, they were just bins.

Re: Beetles...They do exist

I realize this is probably a dumb question, but there's no way these things could get out of a SLB or cab box could they?
