I don't buy that. I think it's a marketing gimic, or a safety issue.

If your mind was already made up, from reading articles such as the one you provided a link for, why did you even ask the question?

The person who wrote that, like so many others, has no real idea what tubes are for. However, they come up with some reasoning, in the form of an explanation that sounds reasonable and makes sense to them. Therefore, it must be right! They do more of a disservice to the cigar community than they do good. I'd like to believe than Min Ron Nee has a little more insight into the aging of quality cigars, than the person who wrote the article in question. If you really want to know bad enough, do some research and talk to some of the old timers who are still around. That is, of course, if you can find one and then, if he is willing to share his expertise with you. Oh, by the way, cigars in tubes have been around for over sixty years.

They definitely make a difference in long-term aging..... having smoked a 70's Boli Tubos I can tell you it was out of this WORLD!!!!!

I'm a believer in tubos

I also keep some of my cigars in generic tubes to slow down the aging process....

And you would be right. Habanos doesn't care a rat's behind about aging. Tubos were made so the cigars could be sold in places that didn't have decent storage, i.e. drugstores, gas stations, clubs, etc. A casual smoker could make an impulse buy at the register, throw a couple tubos in his shirt pocket and walk out.

That the tubos provide a nice stable environment for aging is a plus, but I think the effect is exagerated. They might age a little bit better, but it's subjective. IMHO, a well stored cab will age just as well as a well stored box of tubos. I've had some great vintage tubos, but most of the best vintage cigars I have had were not tubos, so it's hard to say one is better.
