Question for Cali residents (smoking ban)

I'm aware that California residents are not allowed to smoke in any public places. What has that down to the business of cigar shops?

I ask this because this same law was passed in Austin, TX just recently and I'm afraid it will spread towards Houston. I love to chill and smoke in public places and I'm afraid of what this will do to the local cigar shops?

Re: Question for Cali residents (smoking ban)

The California non smoking law does not affect any business that has a certain large percentage of its income from the sale of tobacco products.

"Cool River" in north Austin lets you smoke just about anywhere(even outside), but the dinning room!

Cedar Street on 4th does too, as well as several others. I don't see it being too bad in Houston if a law passes. You may not get to smoke outside your local Charphuck's, but who care bout them anyway... As far as cigar shop, I would think they would be exempt from anything.

Plus, you have to consider, Houston's demographics are different from Austin. Houston still has more REDNECKS who won't stand for smoking bans. Austin on the other hand is full of tree huggers

I believe the % for CA is 60. If 60% of your business is tobacco related then smoking is allowed. My opinion would be that it has really shafted bars and some restaurants.

Hey you guys from Texas,,if you hate the smoking ban and hate politics as usual vote for Kinky Friedman..He just got Jessie Ventura's campaign manager to help with his run..There is some screwy law in Texas that if you vote in the primary you cannot vote for a write in candidate so don't vote in the primary...

Jerry in Minnesota.
