Wow! Just emphasizes the point of enjoying the times you have with one another while you can. Perhaps you can smoke that Ashton on a HUGE life moment (wedding day, birth of a child, etc.)....otherwise, keep it in the humi.

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
Thanks for sharing your memories of your dad with us. As for the Ashton, this is what I might do. . . keep it until your son (if you have one) is old enough to - and does - enjoy cigars and pass it to him or share it with him. Barring that - Keep it forever!

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
I believe I am speaking for many of us when I say that this thread is in no way a downer. I appreciate your post of such personal and awesome memories. Always keep them close, and every time you set out to enjoy a cigar your smoking buddy will be right there enjoying that time with you. That is what I truly think, anyway!
Keep strong and smoke many Ashtons! ![]() Kyle

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
The important thing is the memory. And yeah, I'd hold on to the cigar too.
My smoking buddy died in his sleep five years ago of a bad heart valve at the age of 36. I still think about him about every time I light up a cigar. |

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
Thanks for sharing, My dad is also my best friend and he is now going through a series of surgeries, carotid two weeks ago, heart bypass on Nov 13th. I've been flying down to see him every week for the past month and until he gets through all of this. We'll have four days to hang out next week before his surgery, I'm hoping he gets through this fine but I'm spending all the time I can with him just in case. My father in law passed two years ago and my wife says that if she hadn't seen him the last weekend before his surgery that ended his life she would have never forgiven herself.
My son will graduate from college in December and we are very close. I hope that my relationship with him also stays strong through the years. Thanks again, Rick |

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
Thanks for sharing your story with us. I understand your feeling about the one special cigar. I am the type of person that would hold on to that one cigar forever more than likely. I have a keepsakes that remind me of times or people in my life, to me, each time I look at them it helps me remember.

Where in PA are you? I know it won't be the same but if you're close by I'd be honored to smoke one with you for your dad.

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
Thanks for sharing a meaningful part of your life with us. When a terrible hardship hit our family some years back I found myself unable to do anything that I considered an indulgence - for several months I grieved, eating and sleeping very little and certainly no cigars or anything that made me feel good. There was no death as you experienced but it felt like it, at least in the sense of our hopes and dreams for the future of our family. Eventually I started to feel hope again and didn't feel guilty doing things I liked. Just a natural part of the grieving process and everyone goes through it in their own way. I can understand your desire to save that cigar as a reminder of those times with your Dad - if and when the time is right to smoke it to his memory you'll know it, and there will be sweetness to it that you'll be ready for. Peace to you brother.
