Missing My Smoken Buddy
Hello everyone, thread writing virgin here. I'm missing my smoken buddy. A few years ago my father and I found something in common and it came in form of an Ashton cigar. We bought two and walked around the Inner Harbor in Baltimore smoking these wonderful cigars that he would talked about for years. Since then we would spend time on the front porch smoking different brands with different taste but he always had his favorite in Ashton. Last year I bought him an Ashton Cabinet Torpedo and waited for the time to sit down with him and watch him enjoy a truly wonderful cigar but unfortunately he suddenly passed away this past January. I still have the cigar, sitting amongst my Padons, Olivas, and LaAroma De Cuba, but I can't take it out and smoke it. I still sit on the porch and blow smoke his way, but its not the same without my smoken buddy. Hope this isn't a downer, just wanted to share and get some self healing that if you have your own smoken buddy enjoy the time you have and remember the good times that past.

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
Those are some great memories that you will have with you forever. I wouldn't smoke that Ashton either.
I wish I could enjoy a cigar with my Dad, but he smoked cigarettes for 40+ years and just quit 5 months ago because he needed Carotid Artery surgery. I don't want to get him hooked on Cigars now. Last edited by Mr.Maduro; 11-02-2007 at 12:13 PM.. |

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
Not a downer at all...really just puts things into perspective. We all talk so much about acquiring this great cigar or that vintage box, but rarely do we think about the relationships, friendships, and bonds that we have formed through this wonderful shared hobby. My condolences to you, as I know what it is like to lose a parent too young. However, though it might be tough, you may want to smoke that cigar that you bought for him. I know if it were my father he'd want me to enjoy it myself, not just bury it away in my humidor (but then again, I'm darn lucky - that's just the kind of guy my father is).

Not a downer at all. It's good for the soul for you to open up and express your feelings. It helps the healing.
Personally, I agree with 68TriShield - I think your Dad would want you to smoke that bad boy. As you can see by my moniker - I think your Dad had exquisite taste. I, too, have a wide assortment of smokes in my humi, but I will smoke one of the Ashtons this weekend in honor of your father. Be well, brudda. ![]() |

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
I lost my dad when I was 3 and had the chance to smoke a few Macanudos with my step-dad (raised me since I was 5 so I consider him my dad) a few years back but did not smoke cigars at the time. He has since went through throat cancer and will not smoke them now. I do like sharing a beer with him though. I sympathize with you and wish you all of the best.

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
I am fortunate as my Dad is still around and I see him a few times a month. He doesn't smoke, but we do share some beers together when we can. Our favorite pastime though is fishing. My best trips are with my Dad, regardless of what we catch.
Next time I am with my Dad I will be sure to think about you and your Dad for a moment. |

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
Thanks for sharing. I wish I had that kind of relationship with my father around cigars. I'm sure it brings back a lot of memories every time you take a look at that Ashton sitting in your humidor.
I would wait to smoke it until there is an occasion both you and your father would have enjoyed together. Then take it out, and smoke it in honor of him.

Your father sounds like a really cool guy. I just recently started smoking stogies with my father. Those are the ones that I enjoy the most.

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
Sounds like your dad was a good guy and left you with some great memories.
I lost my dad going on eleven years next month. I still really miss him -he was my best friend. It's good that we remember and speak of them from time to time.

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
Know he is always there with you when you smoke your cigars. I know that would make me enjoy them even more.
Be happy [and grateful] for the time you DID get to spend together. I for one never had anything like that with my Dad. ALWAYS REMEMBER B |

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
I'm glad you have such great memories of your dad. It's posts like this that help me to remember to cherish every bit of time I have with my parents, because tomorrow they could be gone. I'm sure your dad is keeping an eye on you when you're having a stogie. I'm sure he would want you to fire up that Ashton in his memory as well. Thanks for the post, it got me a little choked up.

Re: Missing My Smoken Buddy
Thanks for sharing about your dad...
![]() I would encourage you to pick up some more smoking buddies, and make sure and tell them about your dad. Something special about folks sharing together around some great cigars. ![]()
