Question Cigar Magazine

Anyone read the newest issue of Cigar Magazine? I enjoy that mag so much more than CA. It actually contains information about cigars.

There is an interesting article about Mexican cigars. The author writes about how the tabacco and production there is really very good, but for some reason Americans still continue to dislike Mexican stogies.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? To my knowledge, I havn't smoked any Mexican gars yet, so I can't pass judgement. However, after reading the article, I'm going to try a few for myself.

The most famous Mexican cigar I've heard of is Te-Amo.

Re: Cigar Magazine

Every Mexican cigar I've ever tried had a Cohiba band on it.

Hey Jeff, put up a link to the mag. I checked google and could not find it.
Nevermind, it's the JR Cigar Mag you are referring to.

IMO, Smoke Mag is better over all and the cigar reviewers are actual normal people unlike the stuffy CA critics.

Re: Cigar Magazine

I prefer Smoke over the rest as well, but still think that CM is decent even though has so much to do with JR.

Re: Cigar Magazine

Ive been reading CA, Smoke and just picked up and read Cigar Mag. Cigar Mag actually has aritcles (plural) dealing with cigars and the industry as opposed to merely one article. Smoke is pretty good but CA seems to talk about everything but cigars.

Additionally, look at the cigars they review and the ratings they receive then flip through the magazine and look at what companies are taking out the full page adds. Tada...its mostly the same companies that CA is reviewing. They are reviewing the companies which support thier magazine, tell me they would ever post a bad review of one. Id like to see the makers of Cuban Bullet or Butt take out a full page add and have a review done. Imagine what would be said.

Re: Cigar Magazine

IMO the best magazine out there is the European Cigar Cult Journal. Followed by Cigar Magizine. Lew needs to rate Cubans.

The only cigar reviews I trust are the ones on these forums as we are not paying for advertising!

Re: Cigar Magazine

Since i am from Mexico i get to try different Mexican cigars and I do enjoy them. Ive had a few Te Amos and i liked them (specially the Gran Reserva line), But another Mexican cigar i really enjoy is Aromas de San Andres. It is very good, and the ones I tried havent been harsh at all. I had one called Artigas and it was so-so, initially had a good taste but it became harsh and I couldnt finish it. Ive had a few Mexican Montecristos (yeah they also have a Montecristo brand in Mexico). And they were very good. nice mellow taste. I just bought last weekend a cigar called "Hoyo de Casa" since an uncle said they were great, this cigars are made with tobacco from Nayarit (another state in Mexico, the most famous cigars like the amo are made with tobacco from el Valle de San Andres) I will try it this weekend.

But if you are looking to try a Mexican cigar, I recommend "Aromas de San Andres" robusto or Tubos. Sorry I dont really know where to buy them online since I buy them at a local cigar shop.

Re: Cigar Magazine

I read them all. Cigar Magazine is the one that is more just about cigars and not all the flash that CA has.I like Cigar Magazine over CA.

It's simple, just buy something from JR's.

You know what I hate about CA? They're reviews are not as consistent as the cigars that they review. One month a certain cigar is 92, next month 87. Take Onyx and Sancho Panza's for instance. Those cigars have not changed any bit, yet they've gone from 94 and 92 to mid 80's in no time in CA's eyes.
