I really only have one friend that smokes cigars, and I give him sticks every once in a while. His wife is basically an anti-smoking zealot though, and he gets the cold shoulder for a LONG time if he gets busted smoking a cigar. I keep my gifts modest to keep him out of trouble. If it wasn't for his wife, I probably would've gifted him a humi and a boatload of sticks by now.

I share but not try to "convert" intentionally, since they always often seem to turn to cigar snobs.

I have to admit that I carry a number of cards from my local cigar shop, I hand them out when people ask about the preimum cigar that I'm smoking, if I know that they would smoke one I may part with a Indian Head Maduro or a milder helix.

Re: Do you actively "convert" others to cigars?

I like to spread the good word to others who I think would enjoy this,,,,,my son has been an avid cigar smoker who has spread this to his friends,,,,they all love the new habit and have been going strong for a few years now. I too am very disappointed seeing some of my most precious cigars after having shared with others to see them snuffed out after about an inch. I can remember almost having a nervous breakdown after one friend of mine snuffing out an Opus after about 5 minutes,,,actually broke it in half while snuffing it,,,,I just sat there with my jaw completely open,,,,no words were coming out,,,it sat there all broken and shredded and he says to me,,,"Geez, you act like I just ran off with your wife",,,,my reply was,,,,"I'd rather you have done that instead of what you just did!!"

HUH?

I used to try to actively convert. I have tried pushing a couple guys down the slope, just to see either the cigars I gifted them languish in a fridge or dry out in a car in the middle of summer. If someone wants to smoke a cigar with me, I give them something I won't cringe if they trash. If I know they smoke regularly and don't just want to pose, I give them whatever they want.

If I am traveling, have a few cigars with me, and have contact with a member of the service, I usually flip them a smoke, with a "Thanks for your service!, If you smoke, you will enjoy that, if you don't, I bet one of your co-workers will"

Re: Do you actively "convert" others to cigars?

Nope, not really.. My best friend smokes with me, we found out he only like cubas. Go figure....

If someone is a cigar smoker then the humi is always open, if this is there first then I give them something med to smoke..

Re: Do you actively "convert" others to cigars?

Just witnessed conversion 4 Tuesday. I gave a buddy of mine a couple 5 Vegas and a CAO at a BBQ a few weeks ago after he really liked a Felipe Dominicana. I went out to his house Tuesday to jam and he says come look at my new toy. Yup got himself a humi and some 5 Vegas and CAO to fill it. I threw what I had with me in there too, it was pretty low on stock he he. Another one down the slope.
I don't mean to convert I just facilitate a man's need to collect something.

I've really only converted one person, and to be honest I'm not sure if he still smokes stogies. I need to start working on a couple of the people that I work with

Re: Do you actively "convert" others to cigars?

I convert my dipshit friends who buy Backwoods/Black and Mild crap. I've converted a few to where they'll buy Flor de Olivas, Oliva Series G, and the CI Joe's Specials. They're not spending too much and they're getting real flavor now. It's a win win. Plus, they keep their big hands out of my humidors
