What tastes like an Ashton?

As you can tell, I am a noob! I have been trying different brands and have found some I really like. The problem I have is that I feel in love with the Ashton Cabinet VSG!

The VSG is a little pricy for an everyday smoker, so I need help finding something similar.

I know that the reason it's pricy is because it's so good, but someone most know where I can get a similar smoke without the big $!

Any help?

Re: What tastes like an Ashton?

the vsg is an awesome smoke

try the padron 3000 maduro
about 4-5 bucks and it's a very good smoke
nothing really tastes like the vsg's to me but the padron is alway a good smoke
maybe look for smokes with sun grown wrappers

Try a sun-grown Fuente 858.

Re: What tastes like an Ashton?

I was at the local shoppe today and was talking to the owner about what was selling and he said the VSG has become his best selling high-end smoke! There was a FULL box of Opus X next to a few empty boxes of VSG's (of course, I helped myself to a half-dozen of the Opus), and he said that, before the VSG's came in, he couldn't keep Opus in stock. Now it's all he can do to get VSG buyers to take the Opus instead! LOL

That's a hard question.
They're quite good, and IMO, their flavor profile quite unique.

Re: What tastes like an Ashton?

i know you guys are going to laugh but i'm game.

cigars international sells a stick made by matasa that i think is a good 2nd to the vsg....just not quite as strong.

it is the ci legend blue label. for a few bucks you can always try a fiver and if i am wrong....you really aren't out that much.....but if i am right.....you can get your fix for less than 3 bucks a stick.

btw....the blue labels are about 6 x 54 boxpressed with ecu. sungrown wrapper that is very tasty.

Re: What tastes like an Ashton?

I was thinking about this the other day but from a different view point. by my taste the RASS, PAN, and Ashton VSG all have a similar flavor profile. Note, I said similar. Depth, complexity, and strength vary.

I know I liked the RASS best, but the PAN and VSG were a close second. I definately liked these two NC as much as and better than some ISOMS.

I find all three of these to be exceptional smokes

pricy? yes. Worth it? Definately.

Re: What tastes like an Ashton?

I will admit that I know next to nothing about most NC cigars.

But fwiw, I find the Montesino Sun Grown line to be close enough to the VSG for my taste. Given the difference in price, I'd take the Montesino SGs over the VSGs, which haven't impressed me much to be honest.

Well, if I had anymore left, I'd be delighted to send some your way. However, they are quite delicious......and didn't last very long!

Sorry!

By the way, you may also want to try a Rocky Patel Sun-Grown. They are not gong to taste like a VSG, but you still may enjoy them. I find them quite good.....

Joya De Nicaragua Antanos are similar, but stronger (and better in my opinion)

Re: What tastes like an Ashton?

Might want to try a Punch rare corojo or a RP sungrown. Both pretty good fullfodied sticks.

I find the JDN to be spicier and stronger. I find the VSG to be a lot smoother and creamier. I also feel the VSG has more cocoa and Coffee to it...definetly more cocoa.

Both are excellent cigars that I highly recommend.
