Cheap odor solution for indoor smokers.

Hello everyone!

I know a lot of people smoke inside and have some issues with odor. There are tons of solutions to get the odor out but some of these solutions are pretty pricey. Theres the standard stuff like removing the ashes and the butt of the cigar from the room, and letting the cigar die out on its own. But unfortunately that doesn't do it all for us.

I smoke in a small room in my garage to get away from the cold weather and still enjoy a good smoke. But it just smells terrible afterwards. My solution to this was two simple and cheap things. First of which is the Lysol Neutra-Air sanitizing spray. It kills the odor pretty well on fabric and in the air. It's pretty cheap and lasts a while. You're supposed to go into the center of the room and just spray for 10 seconds. It smells great and absorbs odor as well as freshens the air with a very nice scent.

What I use to help the lysol out is called the Citrus Magic Pure linen air freshener. It's a small circular box with a weird white thing inside. It absorbs odor VERY well. I have one in my car and my bedroom as well just for constant air freshening. It doesn't just emit a smell like most things, it actually absorbs the odor. It lasts a few months and covers 350 sq. ft.

Both of these items are pretty easy to find, I get mine at Target. They both have 'smoke' listed as one of the odors they can help out with so thats a plus. The lysol goes for about $3.00 and the Citrus Magic for about $4.00. Thats a pretty good sum for a good amount of odor control.

Thanks for the info. I smoke in my truck and need a little something for the after smell. I will be looking for those products.

Thanks, I'll be giving it a try. I might have to spray some on the inside lining of my Leather jacket. I wore it to Churchill's the other night in Boston when I was there and it shows... well smells anyway!

Re: Cheap odor solution for indoor smokers.

Thanks for the tip - I've been longing for a smoke INSIDE for a looooong time now that the snow is here, but unfortunately I was too afraid to risk having to live with foul odours for any period of time.

I'll give this a try and cross my fingers that my wife will be OK with it

I have one of these in my smoking room.
Goes off once every 9 minutes.
(Scares me sometimes when it's quiet though.)
I think I'm getting used to it,
but it still smells like cigars in here for awhile after I smoke.

Re: Cheap odor solution for indoor smokers.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I've been looking for a solution to the smell that is in my garage. I was looking into very expensive air purifiers and this seems the way to go. I'll definitely be trying this out.

Now I just need to get a DVD player, a television, and a recliner out there and I'll be all set.

Note that I smoke in the garage where there is no A/C or ventilation. In your house you'll have to deal with the vents and smoke traveling through them. You may want to plug them up with something. I've heard of people using large magnets to stick to the metal vents, but I haven't seen them. I'm sure a quick google will find you what you need though. Don't forget the basics, such as removing the butt and ashes IMMEDIATELY after smoking. And never force your cigar out, just let it sit and go out by itself. When you crush the tip against your ash tray it lets out a lot of stale smoke that lingers.

This is a cool article I found as well. Also a cheap alternative, something you may already have around the house.

He mentions the candles as well, Febreze now makes candles to kill odors.

Cigarmony also has an article on how to properly smoke in your vehicle without having the odors lingering for all of eternity.

Re: Cheap odor solution for indoor smokers.

Thanks so much! Been looking for something to start trying out. I don't even smell the smoke in my car I'm so used to it now, but my passengers sure seem to let me know it. Plus, been studying at home and I've pretty much got a pipe going every other hr, so I know it smells like smoke in my apartment right now.

Ace Hardware sells them for about $1.50 apiece.

Excellent point and thank you for the read. I actually have 2 of these magnets in my house that I bought from Home Depot.

Re: Cheap odor solution for indoor smokers.

This is what I've been using, it does a great job of eliminating odors in carpet, furniture and drapes as well. I think it is similar to the Lysol product, I will give that a try next time.

That combo is not going to get rid of the odor in the house..
