Leaving for basic in 30 days, got to get in some cigar time

Yep, leaving for basic training for the coast guard in 30days.... been anxious to leave for the past 6 months now.

I was in college and decided at this point in my life the coast guard was for me. Since I was five years old I told everyone I wanted to be a rescue swimmer and now I am going to pursue that goal.

Anyway, to my main point, with me leaving shortly I wanted to pick up a few really nice cigars to try before being with out for two months.

Let me know your suggestions

Thanks

Congrats on living your dream!

I have heard there are some very nice B&M's in your neighborhood, although California Taxes are brutal! Tinderbox has a good selection of singles. Its kind of hard making suggestions not knowing your likes/dislikes or tastes.

The Arturo Fuente line is very good from Top(OpusX, Anejo) to bottom (Curly Head Maduro's and AF Maduro Rothchilds)

Pepin's are the hot smokes around here, but most are quite spicy if you like that sort of thing.

HUpmann's and Punch are a very good consistent smoke. Somewhat on the mild side. Look around, check the reviews, then pull the trigger on some singles or a sampler.

Today's special on JoeCigar.com is a very good deal on Oliva's, an excellent smoke!

First and foremost, thank you

I would recommend you try both the Padron Anniversary 1964 and 1926 lines, they're probably my favorite NC smoke. And as bobarian said, you can't go wrong with Arturo Fuente.

Its a no brainer with Padron, great medium-full-bodied earthy smokes without a lot of spice, and very smooth in flavor delivery. Whether you get the Anni's or not, you cannot go wrong. Go with the maduro version of whatever you get within that brand.

Re: Leaving for basic in 30 days, got to get in some cigar time

actually I just picked up a padron (looking froward to smoking tomorrow afternoon) however its just the basic 2000 muduro, picked it up for $6 at my local b&m...

I have heard good things, if I like that I may have to pick up a 1926 or 64.... keep the suggestions coming guys.

Thanks

Re: Leaving for basic in 30 days, got to get in some cigar time

Let me recall a few good ones...

Ah, I enjoyed the Perdomo Lot 23 quite a bit... has a nice spicy kick.

As duckmanco and Joey Link mentioned, Padrons are quite delicious.

If you enjoy full-bodied as much as I do, pick up La Gloria Cubana or possibly La Flor Dominicana.

Oliva Serie Gs are an excellent, smooth, and mild "perfecto" choice.

Good luck pursuing your goals. Thank you in advance for what you accomplish!

Thanks for your service young man. Just do what you're told and you'll have no problems. EXACTLY what your told!

As far as smokes, I don't know what you like, mild, strong, etc., etc.

Lots of good recomendations so far. I like the Gurkha line. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Some of the Bucaneros are good. Fuente, particularly the Hemingway line. La Gloria Cubana and Flor de Dominica are some other of my favs. Good luck to ya!

Pends on whether money is an issue. Pepin whore here, but if you don't know what you like........been to a place called cbid?

I would definetly celebrate with some good ones though. Good luck with your dreams in the coast guard.

Money is a bit of an issue, however, I am going to try and pick up one or two really nice ones to celebrate if I can. Thanks for all of the sugestions.

As far as taste, I like full-bodied cigars with a bit of spice usally.

Re: Leaving for basic in 30 days, got to get in some cigar time

another thing to mention is that I am still fairly new to the cigar would so I don't want to buy a cigar that I would not apreciate (I would hate to waste all of the care that goes into making a fine cigar and not enjoy it properly) other than that please keep the sugestions rolling guys

We will have to have a HERF in SJ before you leave, so you can meet some Gorillas and get some good smokes in you before joining the Coast Guard.
