Lower humidity making cigars more harsh?
My humidor is carrying the 65% heirtfelt beads, and the % never goes any higher than 62%....
BUt it seems to me the cigars are becoming alittle more harsh. Is a lower humidity suppose to change the flavor as a posed to a higher humidity like 70%? thanx everyone!

Re: Lower humidity making cigars more harsh?
1) get your hygrometer checked, i.e. salt test it
2) It shouldn't make the cigar harsh. There has to be something else going on.

Re: Lower humidity making cigars more harsh?
Yep. Also, "low" is a relative term when it comes to humidity. For me and others, 62% is perfectly acceptable for certain sticks.

Re: Lower humidity making cigars more harsh?
All the cigars or just some of the older ones.... I know that certain cigars go very harsh before calming down through the aging process. The PSD4 is the best example I know of. Now the more humidity ther cigar has the harsher it would be toi smoke IMO. But low humidity making a cigar harsh.... strange.

Re: Lower humidity making cigars more harsh?
Genereally speaking, the 65% beads are used to store Cukban cigars (62-65). Many prefer NC cigars when stored at higher (68-70) RH.

Re: Lower humidity making cigars more harsh?
62 % is fine, lots of people here store at that level. I've never noticed any harshness to my cigars.
Are you smoking too fast and causing the cigars to heat up? It's possible that could be a part of the problem. |

Re: Lower humidity making cigars more harsh?
Harsh is a relative term. I don't find humidity to affect what I term "harsh". I do, however, find that humidity that low alters the flavor of most of the cigars that I have tried, and not for the better. As for "harshness", I have found age to be a greater factor than humidity.

Re: Lower humidity making cigars more harsh?
I kept my cigars at 70% for many years until switching to 65% based on opinions expressed on CS. In general I think 90% of my cigars smoke better at 65%. But, I've found one cigar that smokes better at a higher humidity: Mayorga Hi Octane Robustos. I used to really like these cigars but they seem really dry at 65% and aren't nearly as good as I remember them being. I've had them just over one year. I'm about out of them so am not going to experiment with storing them at a higher humidity.

Re: Lower humidity making cigars more harsh?
I think your cigars are drying out... dry cigars are extremely harsh I'd check the hygrometer and the seal on your humi.

Re: Lower humidity making cigars more harsh?
My cooler and humi have been reading around 62% since it has been cold out and the heat is running. It used to hold 65% in the summer. I am also using 65% beads. I wouldn't worry about as many have said 62% is just fine.

Re: Lower humidity making cigars more harsh?
I find the lower the humidity the faster the cigar burns.
