Re: Your opinion needed - I sent package and DC# shows dlvd but buyer hasn't received

Imho, if you do a trade and the seller ships witha DC # he is NOT RESPONSIBLE after the pkg shows delivered. As the buyer I rarely request ins. unless the value exceeds $200, it is not the sellers responsiblity to provide ins. but the buyers to request it, the same for Sig Required. If the seller were to be responsible until the buyer "says" he has the pkg that would cause way too many problems. This is why we use DC isn't it?

I would offer a make up pkg to the buyer (as it looks like you did) after both the buyer and seller have contacted the PO to see if the pkg can be found.

I've sent & received 100's of pkgs and all but 1 have made it, the one that didn't make it showed delivered (to me) and the seller sent me a little something because he felt bad (this person & I had traded before and still trade/bomb today). My feeling is went the wrong PO box, probably the one next to mine.

Re: Your opinion needed - I sent package and DC# shows dlvd but buyer hasn't received

I had a similar situation when I was selling stuff on ebay. I had purchased insurance. The buyer turned into a real a$$ and started threatening BBB and lawyers, for a $25 bottle of cologne! Even though I had insurance he didn't want to listen. The thing about insurance is you have to wait 30 days to file a claim, and they have 21 days to investigate. So 51 days before a POSSIBLE resolution. In this case the buyer was getting hotter and hotter. I filed the claim after 30 and 21 more days came and went. Heard nothing back from the PO. The buyer was livid and demaned I pay him, so what am I going to do? I paid. 4 MONTHS later the beat up backage returns to me.

So all that to say that even insurance doesn't truly cover you. You must have a policy upfront on how loss is handled. From that point on all my auctions had the following:

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=550 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top align=right width=175>Shipping Policy: </TD><TD vAlign=top width=375>The items will be insured. I can not and will not be responsible for errors and losses caused by the USPS. If your item is damaged or undelivered after 14 days I will provide you with a copy of the receipt for proof of shipping and insurance. It will be the buyers responsibility to file a claim with the USPS to recover funds.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

I like postman, they are good people. The USPS machine on the other hand, has let me down a couple of times, and their tracking is the absolute worst. But their prices are good, and they are everywhere so I am going to use them.

Insurance for $50 and under is about $1.70, a no brainer if you ask me. I always insure what I sell, but not what I trade or bomb.

I would chalk this up to a lesson, what have you learned?

I have even fought missing packages that the USPS has come back with a signed slip (forged) that had perfect cursive of my name. My signature is illegible and more of a consistent scribble.
I can agree with Tom and the others about generalities. Plus, i had three uncles that were mail carriers.

Unfortunately for me, I can also relate to foxtrot. My local post office is at the bottom of the barrel in terms of service, operating hours, efficiency and timeliness. If possible, I drive an extra 18 miles to a neighboring city to mail my Priority boxes, because that 18 mile drive makes a 2 day difference in delivery time.

Several of our town's local retail businesses have a beef with our PO branch at this time, because they are taking postage money for flyer mail-outs, and then holding the flyers, and returning them un-sent, in bulk, to the retailer, or simply throwing the mailers away.

I used to use Netflix for movies. Movies returned from my local PO took 3-4 days to return. Mailed from the adjacent town, they were at the local Netflix site the next day, or the second day, at the latest.

With postal workers in my family, I hate to say it, but not all post offices are created equally!

Sorry for the rant and threadjack.

More on topic, I have had DC numbers shown as delivered to me on many occasions that were either at my across street neighbors, or still in the postal carrier's auto. They seem to think that a package waiting slip placed in my mailbox is the same thing as a delivery. Every time I have one go astray, I get the same "we have delivered it properly" response form the local PO, and end up tracking the package down to a neighbors doorstep. Hell, I've lived here over 20 years, my house hasn't moved, and the address is the same, and clearly posted on my mail box.

Sorry, ranting again.

It appears the seller is going to work this out, which is how it should be. Using DC numbers only is my main method, but I use it only for tracking, not confirmation. However, I do not sell and send cigars, I only give them away. If there's a snafu with a gift, I'm not holding someone else's money that would need refunding. Passes and other shipments where other people's money and/or cigars are involved definitely get insurance included.

Nobody here, from the MOds on down, is going to force you to refund his money, or make good on this.

On the other hand, how you deal with it WILL be viewed with interest.
That is it in a nutshell.
Well stated, Vic.

Way harsh brother.

I recently had a package sent out where DC # said it was delivered and the BOTL told me it did not get there until the next day. Sh*t happens sometimes.

Re: Your opinion needed - I sent package and DC# shows dlvd but buyer hasn't received

Don't have time to read all these posts in this thread

BUT

I am the Buyer.
I am the reason for this cluster F also.
It seems that the address that comes up when I use ****** is an old Address which I seem not to be able to get rid of on ******.....anyway.....

The package must have been delivered to that address.
Luckily it is my Sister's house.

So hopefully I can salvage this.
Sitting in a box indoors. I hope they can recover.

My apologies to all that have been effected.

I have the same problem with ****** also, I always end up getting stuff sent home, when I mean to have it sent to college. Glad everything's resolved!

Re: Your opinion needed - I sent package and DC# shows dlvd but buyer hasn't received

I am not so sure things are resolved.
I hope nothing terribly bad has happened during this thread.
Like I said I did not read thru all of the posts but did see some "not so nice" words.

As for the "Where's the package" that is resolved and it is NO FAULT but my own that this happened.

I again would like to thank Allen for showing the amount of concern that he did.

Also ALL negative posts should be directed at me.

Thank you

Re: Your opinion needed - I sent package and DC# shows dlvd but buyer hasn't received

Brian, i've seen the same thing happen to many people with ******. you can update your address all you want but they still don't update it in their system. i recently sold a phone on ebay to someone, the address that came up in ****** was an old address and the package came back return to sender. the buyer tried blaming it on me till i forwarded him the email and then resent the original package in another box to prove it wasn't my fault. all was resolved but he was still unhappy with me for some reason. mistakes happen, we learn from them and move on. if he got his money and your smokes were delivered then i don't see anything negative about this thread. it's actually a good guideline for what to do when mishaps occur when mailing smokes

And with the rules and laws of eBay/******, as long as the seller provides a valid DC# showing the correct zip code the seller isn't responsible. Now if I didn't have a valid DC# then I'd have to pay the $50 back. I know I'm not the only one who understands these rules.

At the same time I don't have the exact 5 cigars I sold to the member. I've got a couple left but not all 5.
Bruin,

I'll start with this. You and I have done a couple of deals and things have gone flawlessly.

That said if I bought something from someone and it didn't arrive I'd consider that person to be responsible. When I buy from ebay I always insist on the package being shipped insured, I never have on CS because since I ship all my packages insured (even trades) it had never occured to me until this moment that others weren't using this practice.
