I had this problem when I first started as well and in my case it was where I had the humi sitting. I had it sitting on a table next to the chair that I always sit at in the living room. Well I never gave it a thought that there was a heating/AC vent right next to that as well. After moving the humi downstairs in the basement next to my coolerdor I have had no problems at all...

I'm going to go look for some pectin tomorrow and I'll see how it works. I'll order some of the real stuff with the brush too. Thanks!

Do you recommend not taking your sticks out of the cello? I'm a noob who thought you were supposed to when putting in a humidor.

Many different opinions on this - leaving it on protects the cigars but changes the way they age.

Some threads worth checking here:

yeap lots of different thoughts on this one... most agree either way is fine.

I always store them they way I get them, my preference is in the cello, I think it offers a little protection from swings in humidity, handeling ect...

but then lots of my favorite cigars will never come in cello, I'll get over it!

I'm curious if the celloed cigars had spliting wrappers like the one in the photo.

I have gone to trimming the cello to where it is BARELY long enough to fold back on itself, instead of a full 1/2-3/4 inch of overlap I leave like 1/8th inch , in my mind still offers protection but the ability of the RH to seep in *SHOULD* be increased thus hopefully finding a happy medium?

OTOH, the cello is porous, so water vapour can pass through it regardless. But hey, whatever yanks your chain!

I know it is porous but to some degree it has to inhibit the transfer of humidity, delay it, or impede it in some way as it is an obvious physical barrier. Is it going to make a world of difference, prolly not, but it is a happy medium and gives me another excuse to play
