wrappers coming off in humidor - ruined smokes :(
I opened up my humi the other day to grab a Tatuaje and was very carefully moving various sticks aside to get to the one i wanted. As I took some sticks out and put them aside I noticed that on a ton of my sticks, the wrapper is coming off! On a few of my pepins, opus, avo and even my pride and joy, my RC184! I was really pissed at this point and tried finding the problem. I'm very careful with my cigars and handle them well. I doubt humidification is the problem as I use about 3 times as many beads as I should. My (calibrated) hygrometer reads a solid 65% all the time. I'm pretty sure my humidor has a perfect seal due to my constant humidity so that shouldn't be the issue either.
I honestly am really sad about losing so many good cigars that I haven't even tried yet and want to prevent this from happening again. Any help at all would be appreciated. Let me know what I should do or even try. Thanks a lot! ![]() ![]() Last edited by Advil; 12-28-2007 at 05:39 PM.. |

You could probably fix them with some "glue". I think you can use Pectin to repair wrappers.
I'm sure someone will come in with more "how to" tips on how to fix them.

Like they all said. Grab some premixed pectin and they will be as good as new.

Well you obviously have covered the most common issue:
Humidity The thing is I believe it MUST be the humidity level... whether it be a giant contrast from the B&M to your humi, or just simply really low humidity in your box... Since you mentioned several different brands of sticks affected it is not likely a coincidence.... If your humi is exactly 65% all the time the only thing I can think of is that wherever you bought them from stores them improperly....So I would shop somewhere else.... Get a little pectin and fix those cigars.... with a little time they will likely be smokable. Feel free to elaborate if I missed something. |

Re: wrappers coming off in humidor - ruined smokes :(
Do you have fluctuations in the temperature of your humi? Large enough fluctuations in temperature would cause the cigars to expand and contract, possibly cracking the wrappers. Just a thought.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com

Re: wrappers coming off in humidor - ruined smokes :(
That really sucks man! I know the cigar glue will fix the wrappers but the thing I would be worried about the most is when Im smoking the cigars because they could cause the wrapper to explode. I would make sure to let them sit in a dry box before sparking up one of those babies

Just google cigar glue or check CBID because they have it sometimes

In the grocery store you can find liquid pectin in the section that has jars for canning and similar items.

Re: wrappers coming off in humidor - ruined smokes :(
Wrappers coming loose are not always a sign of under-humidification.
Anything that causes tobacco to expand and contract will cause that same kind of problem. Double check the calibration on your Hygro, your humidor's seal, and where you have it sitting. Anything that can alter the temperature or humidity inside the humidor can possibly cause problems, especially if it's a rapid change.

A side thought here. Do you take all your smokes out of the cello? Do they move around at all in your humi? That could be another issue.
