Ridiculous Pricing at local Liquor Store !

I was in a Liqour Store(in NJ they sell beer , wine and hard liquor in the same store) on saturday night and was looking at their cigar selection in a cabinet humidor . Prices were unbelievable . $15.99 for a RP Sun-grown , not sure which vitola . $19.99 for a Fuente Hemingway Signature with a natural wrapper . It was no wonder why the boxes were full .

Re: Ridiculous Pricing at local Liquor Store !

Its pretty much the same since Minnesota increased the tax on tobacco, I don't live near a B&M but when I did stop by one recently I was a little shocked by the prices..

What town in Jersey? You weren't in or near a casino were you?

Those are absolutely rediculous prices. The cigar tax in NJ is only 30%, so that can't be it. Doubt they ever sell anything.

Sponds like they are just selling stogies as a convenience. They probably paid a lot more as they are not a B&M type place.

That is because they are not looking to sell to the regular cigar smoker but the sometime/party smoker. It is a convenience, this way you can pick up you bottle of booze and a couple of cigars and be on your way. I have one near me that has a cabinet humi and I laugh at the prices every time, but someone is buying them. I am sure they will sell some today/tonight as people pick up supplies for party's.

Re: Ridiculous Pricing at local Liquor Store !

It's usually these places that don't know how to keep a humi either. Which means the sticks are usually way too hot and way too dry or way too wet. So in the end you pay way too much for a crappy smoke. But like others have mentioned it's usually the once/twice a year smoker who buys these sticks and 99% of the time they don't know any better anyway.

Yeah I laugh because I used to think a 8 dollar smoke from my local B&M in crappy shape was good, now a 3 dollar smoke in good shape out of my own humi is sooo much better!

Re: Ridiculous Pricing at local Liquor Store !

The Majestic Liquor stores here in the Dallas/Ft Worth area have ridiculous pricing the other way. RP Old World Reserves are priced at $6.50, the Edge Sumatra is $3. They are stored wet so I keep them isolated for a week or two before I let them join the rest of my collection.

Re: Ridiculous Pricing at local Liquor Store !

I was talking to the manager at a local liquor store who sells smokes afer he saw me looking through the glass,he is really trying to please customers,he asked me for suggestions on brands he doesnt carry,he had the usual run of the mill.I mentioned maybe some padrons, some fuente, some pepins,to my suprise two weeks later I walked back in to see 3 boxes of padrons 2000m 3000n and a box of delicias.each box had only 4 or 5 sticks left he saw me looking again and asked me what the other brands I mentioned were...go figure...

I was in the Mt.Laurel - Marlton area , no where near the casinos . The liquor store happens to be one of the better stores I've been to , except for cigars , great beer , wine and hard liquor selection with good pricing .

Funny, I would think they would want to move the cigars in those places. Did they have them in a humidor as such?

Places like that don't have accounts with cigar vendors. They buy from b&m or on-line, just like we do. They have to mark them up to "Vegas prices" to make any money on them.

It will probably be easier on the wallet if you shop online for cigars.
