Re: Gifting a Gifted Cigar....Rude?

IMO, a gift is just that and the receiver can do anything they want to with the item whether it's a cigar or any other item.

I keep all of the gifted cigars I've received in their own box. I'm slowly working through them and I generally try to write a review and/or write the "giftor" and tell them how much I enjoyed the cigar (and I do, 90% of the time.)

I hope I've always managed to thank anyone who's gifted me cigars. I have re-occuring thoughts that I've fogotten someone and it bugs me. Kind of like when I was in college. I always had the feeling I was signed up for a class but I forgot what it was. Oh, wait, that happened to me in real life

I do try to acknowldege publicly on the board the nice gifts I've received from fellow gorillas, as well.

Re: Gifting a Gifted Cigar....Rude?

I called a friend once who had given me a cigar (I think it was that bean mastard LeafHog) & asked his permission to gift a cigar that he had given me to another friend. He graciously gave his permission (that's odd huh?).

Re: Gifting a Gifted Cigar....Rude?

I got another story for ya.......

Some years back, a business associate, & friend, gifted me a cigar at a sales meeting. I had gifted him several & he wanted to return the favor with something he had picked up off the internet.

When he gave me the cigar, we were in the middle of a fairly lengthy meeting & I had nowhere to stash the cigar, but I had on a pullover (pocketless) windbreaker. I stashed the cigar inside the windbreaker next to my body.

Later, during a bathroom break, the cigar fell out & hit the wet floor next to the urinal.

Well, I certainly wasn't going to smoke the cigar after that! I picked it up with a paper towel & stuffed it deep into the trash receptacle.

My gratitude for this fortuitous event was great because he had given me a Thompson house brand cigar.

As a footnote: I do not fear him ever reading this post as his wife is a smoke Nazi & made him quit smoking cigars not long after that.

Same here, I've even been as bad as to trade a cigar to a BOTL who traded me it in the first place. I still feel bad for that.

I had a feeling you might not like what Super Secret Santa sent ya........

In all seriousness, how could the sender actually know if what you are forwarding was in your posession before he/she sent it to you?

Nah, this is an old stick from '99. The vitola is not one you see on the board a lot. I think I am gonna smoke it though. I was going to tonight. It is just too cold even with the propane heater on the porch.

Re: Gifting a Gifted Cigar....Rude?

I look at it as... I don't want to be selfish.

If I have something (whether I bought it, traded for it, or was gifted it) that I think would make another BOTL/SOTL happy, I have no hesitation in gifting it to them (with one exception).

I will always appreciate and remember gifts from others (I even keep a log of all the cigars that I have been gifted - and who gave them to me - DAMN accounting training!) Whenever I look at this log I'm reminded of the kindness and generosity of the gifter and have good thoughts towards them. But if I can make another BOTL/SOTL happy with this cigar too, then that's a good thing.

The only exception is cigars that my Son has given to me. I keep these in a separate box and make it a point to show him that I am keeping them, because they were gifts from him. But I do this knowing that that will make him happy, too.

Just my .

Tim

If it was one I gifted you, feel free. It would not bother me, especially knowing it would go to someone who would enjoy it!

Re: Gifting a Gifted Cigar....Rude?

Seems nearly unanimous that it is ok.

Funny thing is, I recently asked snakebyt this at a herf and he agreed that it's ok.

I agree, and have wondered if the gifter of cigars i have recieved was offended if they showed up on pics here from giftees of my bombs, etc.

I hope this is a universally acceptable move.

Hey, those are my ! Well hit Mr. VS!

One 50 ct humidor is pretty close to full with gift sticks but what if what you really really, I mean REALLY want is to smoke each gift stick with the giver, and there's never enough time in the day or too far away to do it? Argh!

And Garry, I'm saving that beauty you gave me at SJ's we need to dispose of soon!

Agreed. Somebody goes out fo their way to send me a cigar, I keep it if I like it or not. I do not and will never re-gift and think it's rather tacky to do so. The thought is more important than the cigar so when I see the cigar it makes me think that somebody cared enough to send it to me. And that's always a surprise.

Re: Gifting a Gifted Cigar....Rude?

I won't go out of my way to gift a gifted stogie ... won't trade one or send one through the mail to another botl. At a herf, however, sometimes it just happens .. lol.... or if I've brought a few smokes with me somewhere & someone has none, but would like one, well ... some that I brought may very well have been gifted to me (read: a lot of cigars have been gifted to me ... thank you all) & one of these smoked may very well fit the pallet of the not-so-seasoned smoker.

So .... usually, no. Do I sell them, NEVER. But when I'm smoking with friends, it can happen (and has).
