Cohiba Robusto Praise the Lord!

Wow. I am still a newbie, and in the world of cigars it seems your a newbie for like ten years or so then you are finally not one. So I have about 9 1/4 years left to go or something like that.

Anyway Uncle Mikey sent me a glorious bom a little while back in return for some art I did for him, within this bomb there were some Cohiba Robustos. They came unbanded in a baggy markes "Cohiba rob".

Well I still had never smoked a cohiba. I keep an otterbox thing with me in the car, since my drive to work is always at least 30 minutes I can uually smoke a robusto at least on the way home, and if it's really good I'll find some where to finish it off.

My experience with cigars has dwindled in the last few months... the magic seemed to have been dying... or maybe it was my taste buds. I was smoking them like crazy for a while and the experience just went away. I went from 1 to 3 a day to 4 to 5 a week (which is much better for me haha).

Anyway yesterday I saw I had one of these cohibas in my box. Now I have been smoking allot of the finer cigars I have had and that's one reason I have been so bummed with cigars- it seemed like my experience with domestic punches and erdm's in my first month of smoking were way more magical than my experiences with many habanos I have had.

But this cigar from the first puff made my eyes go wide. I didn't want my drive hom to end. So much flavor in this little mofo- the smoke was the perfect thickness, the wrapper was the perfect consistency- chewable without getting a mouth full of dry leaf. I don't even know how to describe the flavor of this stogie besides 'really damn good' - it was milder but that's how I like them (I'm a whimp!). It had fragrance to it- I rolled up my windows until I couldn't see the road from the smoke- I wanted to take it in, not let the windows suck it all away.

I still had about a third left when I got near my house so I detoured to a park, parked my car, cranked up Tom Waits and enjoyed every last bit of this little gift.

Anyway, not the most technical review- but hey, I almost never do cigar reviews- this one was so good I gave it a shot! And I am excited because it revived my love of the leaf.

Does anyone now about these cigars? Was it an ISOM or domestic? Thanks to Uncle Mikey for that great experience.

Re: Cohiba Robusto Praise the Lord!

From your description, Dude you were smoking a cuban. Red dot "Cohibas" suck, and nobody bothers to unband a domestic stick.

Nice to see your post...

Re: Cohiba Robusto Praise the Lord!

Hey Gordon!
Yeah that's why I went so long with out smoking a cohiba because I hear red dots suck and other than that I had all these fancy cuban ones I was saving for days like when I get married, have a kid, get my astronaut license, etc.

Just want you to know that art case is my new best friend. I take it and my lap top everywhere and have a fully functinal portable art studio. Every one who sees it comments on it. It's holding up very nicely to. I added some more velcro in places, some tiny hinges to the small inner compartments and it is really working out. I think I may have to put bigger screws in the handle eventually because they have come out once or twice- mght actually need to double up the handle to even it out. ANyway I love it and now that I have started my graphic novel I use it every day, it's awesome. Thanks again!!!!!!

Eef, PM me the measurement (distance)from screw to screw across the length of the handle. I've figured out a couple of things since doing that one.

I'll make you a better one. I think we ought to attach it with a couple of 10-32 machine screws that go all the way through with a nut and lock washer on the inside.

R&D man, R&D,

Gordo

Re: Cohiba Robusto Praise the Lord!

Wow indeed! Glad you were able to have that experience, sure sounds like it was an incredible smoke. What a terrific person Uncle Mike is to gift you with that treat. Thank you for the review as it in many ways reminds me of how cigar smoking, for me, has greatly helped assist me in my recovery from a drug addiction.

The whole experience and ritual in selecting, purchasing, storing, preparing and smoking/sharing cigars has really filled the void that was once filled with the rituals of illicit drug usage. I hope that my first experience with a Havana will be some what similiar.. I want it to come out of no where, when I least expect it and I want it to sneak up and hit me like a F****** tornado.

Again, Thank you for sharing. Enjoy.

Nice one eef, don't ya love it when you have one of those moments, very enjoyable indeed.
I think the fact that it was unbanded and in a baggy marked "Cohiba rob" pretty much says it was an ISOM . The fact that it bought back the enjoyment of the leaf for you is great.

Probably the cuban one. From what i've heard the n/c isn't anything to write home about.
