So my daughter is due soon...

and this parenthood is a new thing for me.

But what are some guidlines to go by as far as giving out cigars?

1. what kind/quality
2. should they have bands that say sex or just a box of something non-boy/girl specific
3. who to give them to (just good friends/fam, people at work, etc)
4. WHEN to give them out

also, she's due on the 28th, but because of complications there is a chance that my fiance will be induced on Monday (going to hospital tomorrow for tests)...so keep us in your thoughts/prayers/whatever!

Congrats! The joy of giving is important here...and the fact that you want to give out cigars is awesome. I think it's more about the giving and sharing your joy with you friends and family!

First, CONGRATS!!! You have never felt the emotions yet you will feel when you hold your child the first few times!!!

As the father of 3 sons, I kept a cigar from each of the births and still have them in my humidor. You should too.
1. Kind/quality: whatever you can comfortably afford. Each of mine got more expensive than the other, but I was making more income each time.
2. Sex on the band is not that important. Historically I have only seen these on White Owl and RoiTan boxes they sell at the hospital.
3. Who? Anyone that is important to you and you want to celebrate the arrival with. Buy a box and that should cover it.
4. When to give them? Anytime after the birth. I am sure your dad and father-in-law will be there very quickly. Then as you meet people you want to share them with.

And on another subject. Two things you will learn.
1. You will find out what a parent's love is all about when you pray you could trade places and be sick for your baby even when it is just a cold.
2. From 6 months of age on they are more fun every month. My oldest is almost 20 and it still holds true!!!

You are in for the time of your life! Enjoy every minute of it, it seriously only gets better (true, more expensive, challenging and difficult at the same time, but better regardless).

For the cigars, as with everything else, just enjoy it. Make sure you like it, and consider who you would like to share them with, and bask in the moment!

In my family there is a tradition of smoking a Marsh Wheeling at ever birth and with every wedding. I bought a box of Marsh Wheelings when my daughters were born, and I have the remainders of each box in my humidor, saving them for when they get married. I think it will be AWESOME to smoke a Marsh with the man they marry, and the Marsh will be from the same box I bought for when they were born.

These are not the most expensive cigars. In fact I think they just increased their retail price to $0.22 per cigar (I jest of course), but they are definitely not your hand made top of the line cigars.

Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS!!! as stated before, it only gets better, and you cannot imagine the love you will feel for that little child.

Congratulations, bro!

We just had our 4th a few weeks ago. It gets better each time! (though this is the last, unless some medical miracle occurs )

I am going to a monthly herf at which I will pass out cigars. Other than that I don't give em out because none of my family and few of my friends smoke. I plan to grab a variety from my cooler and bring them to the herf and let the guys fight over them, but what do I know, I have never done this before!

I went ahead and ordered a box of Punch Elites (about $45 shipped), I read some good things about those, and I've been wanting to try punch.

None of my family smokes, except for my to be father-in-law. and only a few of my friends. and a couple of guys at work. But I'm sure they'll get gone

and then I'll have more to pass out in the future, if any are left (besides what i save).

and keeping some from when she's born is a great idea! i was actually thinking about doing that, but it seems like a really cool thing to do.

we're going to hospital today for more tests (for preeclampsia, however it is spelled), and if protein levels are still high then they will probably induce monday. the doctor told us to bring everything as we may not end up leaving the hospital this weekend until the baby is out...

there's not a smiley for being scared...haha, but wish me/US luck!

Congrats! I am having the time of my life with my 15 week old girl. I did not give cigars out, it seemed like an old tradition that has lost it's meaning, even with cigar smokers. Everyone of those boy/ girl cigars sits in a drawer in my house not the humi (13 of them from the years). I have never seen any of them smoked, so it seems more of the gesture. However, I was given a box and was instructed to smoke 1 a year to celebrate here. This I like very much since I can get together with botls every year and we can celebrate her life and I can watch a box get 25 years old.

Enjoy, it may not be easy all the time but it will always be worth it.

Congrats buddy. Little girls are the greatest, I've gt 2 myself. Just try to sleep anytime you get a chance because you never know when you'll be pulling an allnighter with her.

As far as the cigars go, I always like giving out something that YOU like. Something that means something special to you. I've had the novelty it's a girl/boy smokes that looked nice but were dogrockets. Fuente makes a nice one, but grab a box of nice med. priced smokes that you're proud to give out and that you'll look forward to smoking on a special day.... say the first time she says daddy, or sneaks out of the house for the first time.

As a young man I prayed to be surrounded by women. I'm 55 and have 3 daughters, 2 granddaughters, female dog, wife and take care of my mother. Be careful what you ask for!!!!

But, you have been blessed my friend. Having your little girl to hold and watch grow up is like nothing in this world. You will be her Daddy, a great word and one you will look forward to hearing every day. The first year will go fast and slow.(you will understand this) I woke up every night just to go and look at her sleeping.

As for cigars, I gave good cigars to my close friends who smoke, bubble gum cigars to the ones who didn't smoke.

Oh yeah, and by the way your life as you knew it...is now changed, Dad.
