2 12 Bottle Wine Coolers for 35.00

I picked up one of these at the Goodwill and talked them down to 35.00 because the door had a crack.

The crack does not prevent it from keeping a seal and it's on the top of the door. Anyway, I called the manufacturer and it's under warranty. They are going to exchange it and all that I have to do is cut the cord and send it to them. So I will have a brand new one and one with a spliced cord. It looks like it will hold a few boxes and they will looks sweet side by side.

Sweet. Thats a hell of a deal. Should be easy to replace the cord.

Do you have to cut it???? Can you remove it from inside where it plugs/screws to terminals???

Or just get an old computer cord or something similar and cut the end off...

That's awesome, I can't believe they'll replace it without the original sales receipt. Surely they wouldn't take a Goodwill receipt.

I already cut the last 8 inches off. It will be real easy to splice or replace it. Oh and I went by there today and they have three of these that are also a bit damaged.

If they are still there next week after payday I will see if I can talk them down to 35.00 on one of these as well.

Of course I didn't tell them that I got it from the goodwill but I did have to get a bit creative.

If I did something like this, and I wouldn't, I certainly wouldn't brag about it. IMHO, this says much about your character. I know some folks think this kind of stuff is fine, but I guess I'm just old fashioned. In my book, it's just stealing.

I wouldn't go as far as stealing. It is after all the manufactures choice to honor the warranty without a receipt. I'm not saying I would have done it, but calling the guy a thief is pretty harsh. I see it more as taking a little advantage of the system.

I don't think it's harsh. If not stealing, then maybe fraud is more accurate. If I buy something from e-bay at 1/4th price, then take it to Walmart and return it, saying I lost my receipt, is that OK? If I see someone drop a $100 bill, then wait until they leave and pick it up, I guess that's not "technically" stealing either, but in my book, it's just as bad. That he is commiting fraud to steal from a corporation rather than an individual is not an excuse.

I was not going to say anything, but it sounded like Smoked was encouraging others to do it, and planning on doing it again himself. I'm not the morality police here, just stating my opinion and hoping others don't see this as a way to screw Haier out of some money. Nothing personal against Smoked, maybe he's normally a standup guy. I just see it a little different.

I think Mtmouse has a good idea. This would be a cheap way to get a working TE cooling system at a good price for a DIYer.

That's a bit harsh. If they don't want a reciept for the purchase that's their problem. Is he working the system a bit, yes? Is he being a "thief" I'd say no.

I don't see anything wrong with what ya did man, I would have done the same thing. If there isn't a law against it, you bet I'll do it. Besides all that, I love goodwill, you can find some great deals there.

I don't want to bother with checking their polices, but maybe the warranty is transferable. Doesn't really matter, I get your point and line of thinking. Be careful though, it can be turned around. Do you send the police some money if you speed and don't get caught? If you sell some smokes do you report the income to the IRS?

FWIW I am on your side with this. Like I said I wouldn't do it myself, I would have been happy enough with the cheap score or just passed on the damaged one.
