Re: Gurkha Beast
I hope Gurkha isn't trying to get us to buy into this pre-embargo stuff that Finck is with their crappy two dollar pre embargo tobacco "Havana Blend" cigars...

Where does all this old tobacco come from?? ![]() Do you mean the new Boer line per chance? If so they are not pre-embargo. Last edited by carbonbased_al; 07-07-2005 at 07:42 AM.. |

Re: Gurkha Beast
Wow, I haven't seen any of the preembargo by gurkha before. Which line is it of theres that uses this? I thought only scum bags used this unscrupulous method of marketing... I talked with Juan Lopez of Carlos Torano cigars about this just to get his opinion and we had a good laugh, along with the roller who was there too, as we acted out the process of sprinkling a tiny pinch of moldy, crumbly, old pre-embarf-go cuban tobacco into the filler..
I just cant take anyone who tries to sell these pre-embargo blend cigars seriously.. Maybe Gurkha is a different story though, I dont know... Are they? |

Gurkha cigars with pre-embargo Cuban tobacco
Last Saturday I tried a Gurkha Toro made with 1940 Cuban tobacco. I was kind of wary about it, thinking it might just be a novelty or marketing ploy. But, I thought it was very good.
Here is Gurkha's blurb regarding it: "The Gurkha Pre-Embargo Line of cigars features cigars with a filler and binder composed of Cuban Tobacco grown in 1940 and purchased at auction. This remarkable 65 year old tobacco has been aging since before the time of Fidel Castro, the embargo, and communism in Cuba. The cigars are robust and Full bodied with a spicy aroma and are available in singles or boxes of 25. In each box, the cigars are presented in a bed of tobacco and the box is signed and dated by Kaizad Hansotia,Gurkha President. Further, all boxes come with a certificate of authenticity." As I said I enjoyed it. Unfortunately it blew out of my mouth and into the lake about halfway through. I think the Gurkha Beasts are very new and are supposed to have pre-embargo Cuban tobacco also. The dealer who told me about them may have been the first or one of the first to get them. I ordered a few to try out. |

Damn, that sucks about the cigar blowing out of your mouth and into the lake! Sometimes I get really clumbsy like that and my cigar flip flops around burning holes in everything..
Do you know how much these cigars are going for or who offers them? I probably should try one if I plan to keep on critisizing them as being, as you called them, a novelty item (very well put). I'll keep my eye out for a single stick so I can give a review on them.. |

clicky clicky clicky There seem to be an awfully large amount of gurkha pre-embargo sticks. I'm wary of these. I won a fiver on satanbid some time ago, and they did not taste cuban whatsoever. |

Gurkha 1940 Cuban-tobacco Toro
LOL carbonbased_al!
Satan sold me my 3 pack as well. I have no idea what real Cubans taste like, and I've never had 65-year-old tobacco from anywhere either. But the one stick I sampled tasted good. I caught some aromatic, spicy notes from it (not spicy-hot, more like sweet spices, but subtle), and it seemed medium-strength and flavorful. Not hard to smoke. That's about all my uneducated palate could discern. I would gladly smoke another one, but I'm not sure if I want to buy any more right now. I'd rather try everything else in the world first. ![]() |
