There are small "forts" along the wall where the troops would gather to rest

Here are a couple of pictures from the Forbidden City in Beijing (no I didn't take a picture of the Starbucks in there)

The system for handling rainwater runoff had these heads where the water would spout from the mouth and cascade to the next level down




All the roofs in the Forbidden City are intricately carved with little statues, etc.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention... I picked up a couple of butane torch lighters by a Chinese company called Honest for about £2 (=$4) and they are incredible. I got a single-jet model and a double-jet model, both keyring-sized with 100% metal casing and seriously hot flames. I can light a cigar with the double-flame one from a distance of 7 inches or so!

I noticed on their website they do Blazer-style models with the see-thru butane tank, but I didn't see any of those in local shops. So if you see any cheapo lighters by Honest on eBay, snap 'em up because they are a great deal!

I've seen a couple from the emblem series being sold here haven't come across the one's you bought though I did find a single jet similar to your double jet.. will keep an eye out and see some of the lighters coming out of China are pretty sweet though the workmanship leaves much to be desired.

Good table torch has both a soft flame and the jet though you need to light it when in jet mode and switch over to the soft flame.. and also has a lock mechanism to hold the flame.

Good to hear that you had time to do some touring.
The wine is not very good there either. The beer is! Go figure. I have been all over asia the past 17 years. It's changed a lot. Sometimes they give those torch lighters away after dinner in a resteraunt. I have a bunch of dead ones.
Everytime I have gone there it was to do work. No time for tourism. Seedy hotels in back parts of cities can be "interesting."
It's always a great feeling to get home.
