Packing cigars for Iraq

In our next care package to my brother in law in Iraq I was going to send along a few sticks. I know the it can take a long time for a package to get to him, and that Iraq is not an area well suited to cigar storage. Can one of you guys that have been sending cigars to the troops chime in and give me some pointers. I was thinking about sending probably no more than 5 and I am pretty sure than just putting them in a ziplock bag is not going to cut it on this trip.

If you're putting them in with other items I'd use a 5 finger bag and put a water pillow in with them. Then just wrap some bubble wrap around for cushioning. Priority Mail doesn't take too long, don't know about other methods.

A couple ziplock bags, one inside the other just for a extra level of protection.
Also a water pillow in the bag with the cigars.

You can save a little money on the water pillows if you buy them at the pet store. They're usually around the terrarium section. I think they're in 6 packs for around $3. They don't have the little baggies but you can use any baggie.

You can also use a small tupperware container to keep them from getting crushed, though I would keep them in the cello, or in ziploc bags to keep the cigars from damaging each other.

Re: Packing cigars for Iraq

A big thank you to bobarian! The cigars arrived today along with some extra 5 finger bags. I wasn't expecting any for me.

I am really excited about mine. I have come to love maduro and similar wrappers. Also, I've wondered if the companies that used to be Cuban are any good so I'm really curious to try the Partagas and the Sancho Panza. But I have two newb questions. The x3 ligero with the cedar wrapper, I don't currently see it for sale anywhere, did it become the Gurkha Triple Ligero? And what is the one with the gold band at the bottom? Google just came back with jewelry.

Of course now I have another problem. I don't have any room to store all of these until I'm finished getting this box together. However, the same friend who gave me my little humidor gave me a heartfelt humidification tube. So after the kids are in bed I'm off to the store to get a plastic container to make him a tupperdor with the humidification disk that came with my humidor. I feel better about sending him a tupperdor anyway since now he'll need to store them for a while, since he's now getting three times what I was going to send him! So next Friday (payday) I'm getting the rest of what I'm planning to send him and off it goes for it's loooong trip to Iraq. My wife reminded me that his birthday is in March, so apparently this is going to be a birthday present. And of course I will make sure to let him know of the generosity on clubstogie.

Thank you again so much, your generosity is very appreciated. I can't thank you enough.

I've used a plastic water bottle to ship to Afghanistan - seemed to work very well and held about 5-6 of varying type.

Re: Packing cigars for Iraq

Glad they arrived safely. You can get some pretty nice containers from Target. They are the Sterlite with the orange plastic on them. They have a seal around the top and work great as travel humi's.

The gold band ones are Blend #7's from Cigar Factory Outlet. Actually they are a pretty good cheap smoke. You are correct the KHansotia Triple became the Gurkha. Not too strong, very tasty.

Hope you both enjoy the smokes.
