Talking Steak Cigar

Hi Guys - I'm new here to Club Stogie, but I've been smoking cigars for over 20 years. I usually prefer a mild cigar, like Cohiba. I've also read a number of posts here, and have already taken a few pointers, and ordered a wheel from Barbara, and a 10 Cigar Selection of La Tradition Cubanas. I'm wondering if you seasoned smokers can give me a little advice. Like I say above, I usually smoke medium bodied cigars, but several time a year I will have a blood rare porterhouse, followed up by a tall glass of Bookers 126 Proof Bourbon. At these times there is nothing I like to better compliment these rich indulgences like a real real strong cigar that has teeth. Recently I've tried a few highly reccomended " Full Bodied " cigars and been somewhat disapointed. La Gloria Cubana Series R Maduro, Padron 1992 Robusto and an Opus X Robusto - all of these cigars are very flavorfull, beutiful full bodied smokes. But none had real bite you back teeth to go toe to toe with a 126 Proof neat Bourbon....So boys whadya smoke when you want something that'll take the enamel off of your teeth ?

I like to try different blends and such, but for the most part something with Ligero almost always hits the spot...!

Usually the LFD Double Ligero Chisel stands up pretty well in situations requiring a full bodied cigar. Relatively strong, but doesnt sacrifice flavor and subtlety in the face of trying to be overly 'in your face'. Its a ball buster for sure, though.

Tatuaje J21 or Tat RC184. A bit milder maybe Padron Anni Maduro.

Re: Steak Cigar

Got 5 LFD DL Chisel's in the humi now and am ordering more. Definitely a great stick - bold and complex at the same time.

Re: Steak Cigar

Either the LFD DL Chisel, or my personal fav the JDN Antano churchill. Either of these will take the enamel off your teeth...

Re: Steak Cigar

I love a nice VSG after a steak dinner. Anything from the LFD L-Series Oscuro line or maybe a nice AF Cuban Beli.

First, welcome to CS. If I may be so bold as to throw in my , the three cigars you mention enjoying the body of, but missing the "bite" are all bigger ring gauged cigars. Though it might not be the "manly" vitola/format, you might want to try something in a smaller ring gauge within the same lines you list. The larger the ring gauge the more "air flow" and probably the lower ratio of ligero to the rest of the filler blend. In the OpusX line my favorite always used to be the fuente fuente vitola, which was a 46 rg and I found it to be the very best mixture of flavor, body and strength. In the Padron Anni, it was the principe, which best delivered what I was looking for at the same 46 rg. The LGC series R I was never a fan of in any size, but that might also be because the whole line is geared for the larger rg.

ditto on the ring gauge. a tatuaje cojuno 2003 is powerful, but because of it's size, it doesn't rattle your bridgework. that usually comes from a smaller smoke. IF that's what you really want........

Re: Steak Cigar

I’m with all the LFD Double Ligero Chisel. I’m also quite fond of the Habana Leon Torpedo, the only place I’ve found them is Cigar King, but they do have a bit of bite, or more of a kick, not really a bite, they are smooth, yet powerful. Then I also like the Oliva Series V Figurado, for me it works in the situation you described, however, it’s a bit smother than the LFD, but still has a bit of kick to it.
