The difference Between Cigars and cigarettes?

The Gov't considers cigars to be just as harmful as cigarettes. when legislation passes new tax legislation on "tobacco", it affects cigarettes and cigars the same. should they be seperate? Howcome?

As far as they are concerned, they are both tobacco and both bad.
I have heard the technical difference is that cigarettes were rolled in paper, and that is the defining characteristic. Although that wasn't what you were asking for.

I think it could go either way. Cig's are both/can be but aren't always, mentally and phsyically addicting... cigars are too... but in a completely different way. for me at least (i do smoke both).

i just saw a mini story on ,i think msnbc (channel my wife was watching), they were talking about raising the tax on tobacco, and someone made the comment, "cigars, cigarettes, huka, its all the same,". i was very ticked by the ignorance the interviewee was displaying by putting those all in the same category. if cigar virgin's only knew how much time, effort, love, and attention is put into each masterfully rolled cigar, maybe they would have a greater appreciation than they do.
i just smoked a pre-embargo 1958 the other day that had been hidden in a private humidor for 50 years. just knowing that, for 50 years, someone carefully managed and cared for this one stick, blew my mind. i've never heard of anyone taking care of a cigarette like that. the owners of cigarette companies are in it for the money, not the art or love or excitement that is involved in pursueing that perfect smoke or that perfect herf time with the guys.

Well, most American cigarettes contain roughly 45% paper. Actual cigars should be 100% tobacco. Also, cigarettes contain harmful additives. Again, cigars should just be tobacco. If a cigar is fermented, cured, and aged properly then the majority of nicotine, ammonia and other carcinogens should be gone. Cigarettes are mainly made with the rustica species of tobacco whereas cigars should ONLY be made with the tabacum species of tobacco.
