Storing cigars in 5 finger bags?

I've recently had some uncello'ed cigars stored in 5 finger cigar bags. While I had them in hy humi I had them closed - zip tight.

My brother in-law thought because it is a plastic bag that I should unlock the zip so they could breathe.

My question is:
Will the cigars receive proper moisture while stored in the 5 finger bags in the humi if it is zipped shut?

Re: Storing cigars in 5 finger bags?

I think you want to let them breathe a bit and get some air circulation. I mostly have boxes in my Cooler, but the assorted singles, 5'ers, etc...I get I usually put in an empty Cedar box.

I think it's okay to leave em in the bags but you may want to leave em open vs zip locked

I store mine opened. The plastic doesn't breath like cello.

Re: Storing cigars in 5 finger bags?

I dont think there is a "right" answer here.

FWIW, I have plenty of singles in plastic bags and they smoke just fine. I do believe the cigars inside the baggies will indeed acclimate just fine as long as they are in an environment suitable for storing cigars and have not experienced anything personally to convince myself otherwise.

Re: Storing cigars in 5 finger bags?

The only issue I have found while storing them in the 5-finger-bags open in my fridge-a-dor is that they seem to disappear quickly.....

Re: Storing cigars in 5 finger bags?

I have found that about 3 out of every four five finger bags I have received have small holes in them where they were creased, and won't hold air.

Re: Storing cigars in 5 finger bags?

Another "open" here; if they were all the same cigar in the bag, I may let them stay closed as long as the humidity in the bag is in equilibrium with the humi, so they can "brew" in their own air.

I say open the bags or you'll lose your entire inventory!! Trust me...I'm an expert after two whole years devoted to the world of cigars and managing my massive inventory inside my huge 60-count humidor.

Re: Storing cigars in 5 finger bags?

I'd open them to let air circulate. After all, what would be the point in the humidor in the first place?
