Is this for real?

Here we go. Another Pre-Embargo Cuban tobacco claim. But this time, It's from a respected manufacturer. And CBid is selling it. On top of that, they are claiming that the tobacco is certifed by Christie's auction house as being over 60 years old.

I myself, am somewhat skeptical. Sure, the tobacco may be 60 years old. but how much of it is actually in the stick? How was it cared for over the last 6 decades, etc. etc.

This is the first time I've seen a claim like this that was "certified" (notice the quotations) be a respected auction house like Christie's. This is either a tremendous find, or yet again another ploy to bait some poor unsuspecting consumer into buying into the myth.

I am not bidding......but I'd be interested in hearing what all the gorillas think about this.

Here is the link for your amusement:

Re: Is this for real?

These have been around for almost two years now. Considering the prices, and pre-embargo nonsense i've never tried them.

Re: Is this for real?

I have 2 of these in my humi right now. Didn't pay the crazy prices some places offer these at. Let's just say I have my ways and leave it at that. I did smoke one of these last year and although my experience with cigars wasn't extensive at the time it was smooth with alot of spice and a healthy dose of a peppery taste. All in all it as a good smoke. Is it worth the price? Absolutely 100% NO! I put this up as a novelty smoke at best. It was good and I'm sure I'll enjoy the 2 I have but I wouldn't pay for them ever again. Go get yourself a box of Monte afrique Jambo. you'll be much happier with it.

Oh and yes you get a lovely certificate with these smokes.

At those prices, I dunno. Even if I had cash flowing from every one of my bodily orifices, I don't think I'd waste my money.

Re: Is this for real?

Yep. Those aren't new. They are good, though. Don't pay crazy prices unless you just want one. I got mine on Cbid also. Worth the price? That depends on how much you want to pay.

I enjoyed them, and bought them because of the age and novelty.

I liked them, I just wouldn't pay for them again. It was one of those one time things for me. Hey, it's better than buying that freak of nature Egg cigar and from it's reviews the Gurkha is worlds better in quality and taste.

Re: Is this for real?

Is it for real, very likely. Is it worth it, I doubt it. Christies will have checked the history of the bales. I would imagine that they have certified the tobbacco to be of cuban origin from around 1940. They will probably not have commented on its suitability for cigar production.

I agree with the "novelty" value comments.

For the current bid price you can get yourself a box of 2005 EL RyJ Petit piramides . I know where I'd spend my cash

Yeah I could think of a few other things to buy with that kind of money. For the novelty of it the 3 packs on cbid are more affordable. Like I said though, Never again. Thankfully in my young inexperienced days last year I had the common sense not to buy a box of them. I don't think I could have lived that down.

A no brainer nephew, a couple boxes of PSD4's is the ticket. Never had the pre embargo so I'm not missed a thing.

Re: Is this for real?

I had no intention of bidding on these, or the 3/5 packs offered. I was just wondering if this could actually be a decent smoke. it shocks me taht someone would pay that much for these, though!

Re: Is this for real?

Bleh -- don't bother. First of all, Cuban tobacco is not some magical leaf... some Cuban tobacco is excellent, some is not -- same with tobacco from just about everywhere else in the world.

Second of all, if you want a cigar with Cuban tobacco in it, buy Cuban cigars. It is not hard.

Finally, the schmucks who use this marketing tactic are just playing on people who don't know any better. Do not feed the trolls.

Re: Is this for real?

I have one in my humi that I was gifted before. I havent smoked one yet but it looks good.

Has anyone smoked one yet ? How do these taste ?

I think I would rather seek out a few Davidoffs or Dunhill Cubans and pay for those.Atleast they are collectable and rare. I got a four pack of Davidoff tubos for $250.00. I would rather have those than a Gurkha.

This is just my opinion.
