I’m officially out of control. (confessions of the truly obsessed)

So you smoke cigars. Being a normal curious person you strike out to learn more about your hobby. You find TOP25 Cigar. What a great resource for identifying cigars to buy. Which of course you do in ever increasing quantities. New humidors, cabs are not far down the road of your cigar adventure. You are traveling alone but feeling pretty good about the whole thing.

One day you see this link to Club Stogie. What’s that? Others with the same passion? Neat. Man there is a lot you realize that you don’t know about your hobby. In learning more about cigars you also learn a lot about cigar people. They are cool. Friendly, caring and eager to share their passion of cigars with others. Slopes? Things are moving to fast to really recognize you are on a compound one. There are multiple entry points for involvement in the exchanges that go on. As a newbie it might have been the NC pass or the newbie exchange. Pretty cool that people you have never met send you cigars on faith and without concern.

Omfg I got bombed. Someone I don’t know sent me cigars. Not just any cigars but Cubans!!! OOOHHH. They are better than you expected. WTF people have Cubans. Another bomb. Wow. Along the way Club Stogie has become more than just cigars. Who would have thought this would happen. Very strange that the guarded lives we live, the desire for privacy seems less of a concern as you expore the jungle.

You finally take the plunge. That OFG that was nice to you. The PM. The source!! Sally Fields “you like me you really like me” rings in your heart. The anxiety of that first purchase. Man this takes a long time. It came!!! How many times can you open and close the same box in one day.

65%? Oh $hit. Another humi. Beads? Active humidification? Man this hobby has its complexities and expenses. Sending that first bomb. Man your in the game now. Return fire. Others sliding wildly down the slope with you. How much fun is this?

Old cigars. Who knew. Rotten OFG biatches hit you with “Old cigars”. You already have filled up the “big cab” with new cigars. Old cigars, must get more old cigars. Another PM to a friendly OFG. $hit old cigars are even more expensive. You push on.

Another member calls you out. A friendly war ensues. Others decide to help and soon between what you have bought and bombs, you have more cigars in your humi then you have smoked in your entire life.

There are other forums in Club Stogie. Coffee? Man you love coffee. A whole new set of things to learn and cash to burn.

Herf? What the heck is that? Anxiety.. reality links to cyberspace. Geez what was I worried about. Unbelievable!! You get a very good sense of the quality of people through interaction here. Now the exchanges escalate. You can picture the looks on the faces of the LOTL’s you have met.

Capacity issues. Space for cigars is getting tight. Buy another cab? Coolidors!! Didn’t understand why now you do. Bank. It’s an issue for “everyone”. Credit card receipt day is the worst day of the month. ******? OH $hit.

Obsession. First thought of the day is about buying or smoking cigars. Mailman thinks you are a drug dealer. You know every international air express guy personally and the transit times from various parts of the world.

And of course the most telling thing.. you write something like this instead of working.

Help!!!! And thanks Club Stogie.

The first step is admitting it Dave! Good for you!

I, however, am in denial. :s

Re: I’m officially out of control. (confessions of the truly obsessed)

I'm with you all the way on this, I'm fairly new to cigars and very new to this forum. I'm getting by on "budget smokes from Uncle mikey and a few %^&* dutch cigars. Lifes okay.

Then firstly some inconsiderate SOB has to gift you a few to try, yeah included a 1976 tubes RyJ Churchill and a 1920 box pressed cuban. WTF, now i'm having nightmares and checking humi more times than I visit the bathroom, and most visits to the humi cause a visit to the bath room. Its nowhere near f'ing 70 became a frequently heard phrase.

Then online help, right, join a local forum and here. all's well to start with, then the server crashes, I sign on a new, another inconsiderate SOB, sends me more bloody cubans. ( I always disliked Reading, now I know why). Then somebody posts a link for an Altaldis offer on RyJ's but USA only. Ah I know one of those nice Americans offered to help with NC supply and hes on both forums I use.

PM: Richard old chap any chance of you grabbing one of those samplers for me, and posting on. I'll ****** over the funds ASAP" No, another SOB. "don't worry I get this one".

DONT WORRY, I've not stopped worrying since I started this game!!!!!!!.

Your all a load of SOB's and its been a pleasure to join up.

PS Lumpy, just had to have that PSD4 after yesterday's result. whoa on both counts.

Re: I’m officially out of control. (confessions of the truly obsessed)

Dave, I can sympathize with you. The only thing that keeps me from being a danger to international shipping is a lack of green.

But I have a 3 step plan that can rid you of this pesky obsession once and for all. YOU MUST FOLLOW ALL OF THE STEPS. No shortcuts, no forgetting, YOU MUST FOLLOW ALL OF THE STEPS.

Step 1: Losing your obsession with Club Stogie.
Two days after you agree to follow my plan, you will have a visitor knock at your door. Open the door and invite him into your house. His name is Will.
Will wears Club Stogie T-shirts & shorts 24/7. He will be living with you and following you around for a few weeks ... get used to him. Now, when he eats the toast out of your hand in the morning, pushes in front of you for the bathroom and lays a stinker that plugs the toilet, starts hitting on your daughters, leaving your humidor open ... you'll soon get tired of him. However, you will host Will for 3 weeks. By the end of the 3 weeks seeing a CS logo will send you into fits.

Step 2: Losing your obsession with the mail man.
I will arrange that 6 figure credit card bills arrive daily for 3 weeks. After a couple of days you'll be hiding.

Step 3: Losing your obsession with cigars.
My coleague Dr. Dimitri Pavlov will oversee this part of your treatment. I will have cremosas rolled into the shape of thin turds and Montecristo bands put on. They will be placed in your boxes/humidors in replacement of 95-98 Especial No. 2s. Whever you light one up, Dimitri will yell CIGAR and ring a bell. He will force you to smoke the entire cigar .... you won't be able to stop.

In three short weeks you will run from cigars, your mailman and CS.

Re: I’m officially out of control. (confessions of the truly obsessed)

So this is what we have to look forward to? HELL YEAH! Bring on the obsessions, compulsions, and SCREW moderation! The world is full of mediocrity, devoid of passion and insistent on control, let us not fall victim to societal constraints, but venture to the EDGE where insanity and delight peer up at us from the depths. It is our obligation to FULLY engage in temptation and bask in its fruits for we are no mere mortals, but People of the Leaf!

Great post Klugs! Cheers.

Stop, take a deep breath. Then brew a cup of freshly roasted coffee. Now fish through one of your humidors for that cigar you've had your eye on. Finally, light up and enjoy.

In other words... Give in to it!
